Is it the done thing to have an engagement party? It seems like everyone is having one be it on TV or my friends....
I never had one, and was engaged in October. But the OH, not too sure but I think I remember him mentioning, That he had one for his first marraige...

How many others had an engagement party?

we celebrated, but just went to a pub and about 10/15 friends came along. My opinion was im not going to spend a fortune preparing an engagement party when we have a wedding to save for. wasnt going to do anything but everyone asked so we didbut i wouldnt have bothered.

my partner threw me a surprise 25th birthday party which was 2 weeks after we got engaged, so it was kinda like a party for both.0

I'd have an engagement party to let everyone know i was engagedTurn £100.00 into £1000.00
Decided to start off with things in house, as i have no money!
Currently £38.70/£1000 :T
Joined weight loss challege, hoping to lose 14lb .. currently 1lb/14lb :rotfl:0 -
We didn't bother, we live in Surrey while a lot of our friends/family are in Scotland or Northern Ireland so it would've been hard to include everyone. I think a few drinks with friends is just as good as spending a lot on a party though.0

I got engaged on Friday (yippee!) and we spent the weekend celebrating just the two of us. Tonight I'm having a miniparty with five girls, and then on Sunday we're having lunch with the parents (first time they'll have eaten a meal together despite us being together for seven years!).0

Congrats! Any plans for when you will have the wedding yet? I know your only just engaged0

We just took the parents out for a meal, rather than the expense/fuss of a party.0

Thanks! I promised my fiance (ooh, that sounds odd!) that we wouldn't start thinking about it until after he's finished his PhD (end of this year) but of course I am, secretly! I quite like the idea of November 2012, that'll be our ten-year anniversary...but that's so far away so maybe spring 2012 instead!
I can't believe how much there is to think about, how does anyone manage?!0 -
Well until he 'allows' you to start planning lol theres loads of inspiration on the forum, my wedding isn't for ages yet and i've seen loads of ideas i love0
