mouth ulcer remedies - natural or medical.

There are all sorts of possible reasons why someone is prone to mouth ulcers, and without a blood test, it's pointless just guessing which reason it might be.
Plus, some people are just prone to them for no measurable reason.
Neither is there a single 'cure'. Some people find certain things helpful, but there are also people who just have to 'put up with them' until they go away.
A dentist would be a better bet than a Dr for getting a proper investigation and a decent crack at treatment though. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I get them when I'm run down. Really speaking it needs to be tackled on two fronts.
Initially the ulcer itself: I find fresh pineapple to be the best cure. It stings, but it really works. Works on sore throats too in my experience. Something to do with enzymes and vit C.
Secondly, there's a reason why you're getting them repeatedly. See your GP and assess your lifestyle, you may need a multivitamin etc.
Hope that helps - they really hurt!!

indeed! I had a patient the other day who was told that she gets ulcers because she has too much iron and therefore there was nothing that could be done. Now personally I havent heard of that one. The blistering leading to ulcers and similar symptoms on the rest of her body had more more worried though and a prompt max fac referral followed.0 -
When I had a problem with mouth ulcers I used difflam oral rinse, then some liquid anaesthetic stuff to apply directly to the ulcers, which hurt so much to apply I took some codeine, then bonjela, then more codeine because they still hurt. I counted 10 on my tongue then stopped counting in horror
I'm not sure all that would be a good idea as a long term solution though if you have problems with mouth ulcers repeatedly!

Liquorice root is quite good but definitely see a doctor/dentist to make sure that there's no underlying cause.0

I used to get really bad mouth ulcers and the doctor recommended I take zinc (15 mg per day). Ever since taking a zinc and multivitamin supplement (cheaper than just buying a zinc supplement) I have had hardly any ulcers and the ones I do get are nowhere near as bad as what I used to get. The doctor sent me for a blood test before recommending zinc just to check for any other causes. It isn't possible to check for zinc levels with a blood test. It was very quick to have an effect once I started taking the supplement.0

PGxxMoney is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

Pineapple for me too, I buy the tinned pieces and freeze in ice cube trays just pop one out when needed. Quite a cheap remedy and works for me.0

I get them frequently.
Frador. Apply it with a cotton bud and prepare to cry....
Anbesol isn't as good but not bad.
It's the tongue ones that really annoy me. Anbesol doesn't touch them - I'll be trying the mouthwash mentioned earlier in the thread.0 -
Vitamin C and zinc tablets. It doesn't cure them overnight but does help get them on there way. I've also used the pastilles already mentioned for the really bad ones. i usually get them when I'm tired or run down. Its either an ulcer or a cold sore :-(2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback
