Yes this has been mentioned several times on this forum. It is correct.
  • Terms and conditions for Orange Home services:
    http://www.orange.co.uk/terms/5506.htm

21.4 If you terminate your Agreement and do not request and use a MAC Code we reserve the right to make a Charge which you agree to pay. This Charge will be to cover the cancellation fee that we must pay BT for disconnecting customers in this way. The amount of the Charge can be found at http://www.orange.co.uk/time/disconnection. Such a Charge will not be payable by you if you Move and have subscribed to our Service(s) at your New Home or if we are unable to provide the Service(s) at your New Home.

    What is this fee?

MAC stands for Migration Authorisation Code and it allows you to move between ISPs quickly and with no loss of service. Most of our customers switch broadband suppliers by using a MAC code and therefore will not incur this fee. However, BT charge us for those customers that do leave without a MAC code and unfortunately we have no option but to pass this charge on to those customers. If BT reduce or withdraw this charge at any point in future we will immediately do the same.
  • If you are changing from an ADSL based bband to VM's CABLE then you DO NOT need a MAC Code as VM's bband DOES NOT go thru the phoneline,it come's thru the same cable as the TV!!!
Therefore I cant see why you'd have to pay a charge for moving between ADSL bband ISP's.
