Thinking of getting a house cleaner, who charges £8 per hour. It isn't through an agency or anything so I will have to look into insurance myself. anyone have any idea how much public liability insurance would cost for something like this? Thanks

If the cleaner is self employed they should have their own liability insurancePeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

You are correct. Perhaps the OP is thinking of Employers Liability Insurance but that wouldn't apply in this case.If the cleaner is self employed they should have their own liability insurance

I'm looking for insurance to cover me in the event of the cleaner hurting themselves whilst in my property. Whatever insurance they might have wouldn't cover this so I think I need my own public liability insurance.0 -
No you dont the cleaner needs their own Personal Injury Insurance to cover their own safety and their own Public Liability Insurance to cover any damage they do in your house.Pythagorous wrote: »I'm looking for insurance to cover me in the event of the cleaner hurting themselves whilst in my property. So are you saying if the cleaner fell and broke her neck down my stairs due to a faulty stair she couldn't claim against me for negligence?0

No but PL insurance is for the tradesman not for the private individual who might employ the tradesmen. Its not the correct product for you.Pythagorous wrote: »So are you saying if the cleaner fell and broke her neck down my stairs due to a faulty stair she couldn't claim against me for negligence?

So whats the insurance that I would need called? I always thought public liability ins was used to cover you in the event of a member of the public hurting themselves due to your negligence (eg whilst on your property).
Anyway, what I'm most interested in is how much 'the insurance that I need' is going to cost me.
Thanks0 -
You would be best to ask on the insurance forum http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=21DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j
