I hold both these accounts and each has its uses. Halifax Websaver has more bells and whistles, but tiered interest rates mean you earn just 5.3% AER to 5.5% AER (for balances over £25,000) - little better than ING in fact. B&B's internet saver pays 6.4% AER on balances from £1.
The Websaver is fine as an emergency cash reserve, but most would not want to park larger sums there.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
ALrite guys
just tried to open the b&b savings account. Got to the end where it said i will receive my welcome pack in the next few days with my user id "once we have received all the information we need". DOes this mean i have to send off proof of id? if it does, the website did not specify what i need to actually send. i tried to ring customer services but cant get through. Any advice as to what i should do from here?
Cheers0 -
Provided that you're on the electoral roll at your current address, your ID can be checked electronically and you won't need to send any docs.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0

Hi all,
I think I'm on the right thread for this one. There was a discussion going on a while back regarding Sainsbury's Internet Saver. I signed up for one of these accounts, but seem to have been waiting for around a month. I've signed up for the internet access, but have not received confirmation that the identity check has been completed so am reluctant to hand any money over to them. Anyone else being kept waiting?0 -
I have tried to apply for a HiSave account twice so far and on both occasions the final screen (Legal Confirmation) froze and would not send. I e-mailed HiSave after the 1st occasion and they gave me a toll free number.....which also did not work on the first two occasions. The 3rd time I got through to someone on the phone to be told that the page will expire after 5 mins and I was in the process of explaining that I had completed the 3 previous pages as fast as humanly possible when the phone went dead! Have you heard of anyone else having these problems? I am afraid that my confidence in their technology is so low that I don’t think I will bother right now!0

Hi there
I've stumbled onto moneysavingexpert website and I think it is fantastic!
Ok, my question after reading the articles is which should I open an account and put my money in:
1) ICICI's 6.41% interest or
2) Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct Current Account at 6.5%
Would I be right in going with Alliance & Leicester which has the higher interest?

Having been a customer of First Direct for more years than I care to mention, I decided to move to Alliance & Leicester, and have had nothing but heart ache since. More to the point customer service is variable- depending on who you get. It is very easy to get caught out by the balance shown on your on line statement, they will also charge you if you open the account and decide not to use it. I am already thinking of looking elsewhere, and I haven't been with A&L for a year. Not only have I lost money in bank charges incurre dthrough the action of this bank, but I suspect have lost my previously excellent credit rating. A good rate if interest is not everything!0
