    There is no such thing as a " Digital " aerial.

    It should work OK with a signal booster from upstairs, as you say the upstairs works fine.

    Blimey have you not solved this yet:

    "If the signal is good upstairs and poor downstairs and you only have one aerial on the property, then, check the connectors downstairs for any sign of corrosion or "shorting" of the outer braid and inner core.

    If the lead goes up the outside wall check the condition of that, (from the ground!)"

    Look in loft for connector problems if you are able, if not get your local aerial guy in for an hours labour.
