Hi
I have a whole load of very good paperback novels to sell.
i was thinking of selling on ebay but with the postage charges that i will have to add on, i wont be able to compete with the business sellers who are probably getting discounted postage charges.
has anyone got any ideas how i can sell them please? i really need to raise a bit of cash to pay my council tax
thanks all.

Have a look at this site:
http://www.greenmetropolis.com/
There is a set price for each book - you would get £3 for each book sold. It may not suit if you expect to make more money or need to sell the books quickly.0 -
if it helps ebay have now changed the rules again and you are allowed to charge postage on books (up to £2.75 i think which would be ok for most books)
it is also free listing this sat and sun i think0 -
I have tried selling books on ebay but never had any luck - Amazon is quite good or do you have a second hand bookshop near you?0

I have used it for 2 yrs now but I would no longer recommend this if you need the money. It is ok if you do it to declutter or be green but with postage charges going up and up and the prce you get per book remaining at £3, it is no longer worth it. You make about 50-75p per book recently.:mad:Have a look at this site:

PS everyone on Amazon charges the same for postage - business or private sellers. The only deal you get on postage there is the ones on Amazons own items rather than the store. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

is there a feedback system on amazon like in ebay?0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have enough to make it worthwhile I'd go to a car boot sale. Lay them out attractively and price them sensibly and all the profit after your pitch money is yours. I do most of my book buying at boot sales.
If you only have a few I'd put the ones with a higher value on Amazon and the cheaper ones on Green Metropolis, but make sure these aren't too heavy or you'll end up out of pocket.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

Yes there is but it is usually only a few buyers that leave feedback and sellers rarely do. You can't block individual bidders either.
As someone posted earlier this is a useful thread for Amazon selling, it does become rather addictive though:

However one tip, if these are chart type paperbacks then forget about selling online at all as they don't sell as they are cheaper to buy on the high street rather than online due to postage costs. For instance, on Amazon many ex chart novels sell for a 1p, that actually costs the buyer £2.76 and the seller (if not a pro) only gets £1.44 as the fees are much higher than ebay. Then you have the problem that you have got £1.44 and a normal paperback will cost £1.85 to post.
I sell a lot of books and ex chart novels are usually the ones I send straight to the charity shop. I have done a few car boots but even then people want them for around 20p a go if at all and I can't be bothered to get out of bed and stand in a cold field for a few pence.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
