Hi
I have a contract with vodafone, last week my son 'cleaned' my phone in a glass of water!!! It no longer works, not able to get an upgrade til june so went and bought a cheap lg phone from tescos. When I put the sim in it asks for my pin code, done this no probs, it then asks for sim lock code.
What is this code and who do I get it from? Vodafone said I had to get it from tescos, tescos said no vodafone supply it???!!!

A sim lock is what locks the phone to the network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock)
So if the phones from Tesco, it's them that need to give you the code. They may charge you (somewhere between 10 and 20 quid, it depends on network).0 -
I believe i am right in saying, the handset you have is locked to using a sim card on a certain network. I.e. The phone you brought is an Orange branded LG phone, so only orange sim cards work in it. As it forces you to use a certain sim card the operator makes money so sells the phone cheaper than an unlocked phone.
Tesco, or at least the operators whos phone it is locked to should be able to give you the unlock code (free or charge), usually at a cost or when the phone is x months old.
Other thing to try is a phone shop or market stall (don't bother with online ones), they usually charge £5-20 to unlock the phone.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks guys
Now have it sorted, the phone came with a t mobile sim,so it was them that needed to unlock it ,it would cost £15 and take 28 days though, so have used the pay as you go sim that came with it instead!! I have also been given an old nokia phone in which my vodafone sim works!!!0
