Parking Ticket on Yellow Line for taking Mother to hospital

Options
My Mother inlaw caught her finger in the car boot and it would not stop bleeding so myself and husband took her to hospital. We did not have enough money for the car park as we are struggling financially. So in rushing and panicking and she was crying and saying oh my finger, she is 85 years old.

We parked on a single yellow line in a back street around back of hospital on a Saturday. When we returned we had a parking ticket for £60 slumped on the car. I said to him, we had to rush here in emergency and you stick this ticket on our car. He didn't care and just walked off.

On the opposite side of the road it stated private residents only. So we parked the opposite side where other cars were parked. When we said, what about these other cars, you didn't put fines on them, he stated, well they are all disabled ones.

Where do we stand on this?

Anyone who knows a lot about this area?

Just remember we rushed there in an emergency. I don't think an ambulance would have come out to her for a finger, would they? She insisted on going to hospital cause she was crying and shaking.

Thanks.

I'm probably going to be a little harsh here but surely you should have stopped at the hospital got out with your mother and then your husband could have parked the car.

Unless there are errors with the ticket and/or the signage then you really have no reason for complaint, so check that all that out.

It seems your excuse for parking is not due to an emergency but due to lack of funds.

Your husband could have dropped you both off at A&E and then found safe parking.

I cannot see any argument for not paying.

Not trying to sound an !!! but simply stating the facts as the tribunal will see it.

ok, thanks. thats fine. he still would have got a ticket cause there was no where else to park. There are ambulances in front of hospital so not to block them coming in and out. We parked in a side turning off the hospital.

    Oh well.

Safe parking around there, the only place is the hospital car park and we simply didnt have the money.

but I see your point of how it would look at a tribunial though. Ok thanks

He could have dropped you off, and then found somewhere legal to park and walked back or gone home and waited for you to call and then picked you up again. I dont think you will win on this one, A bit late but I always keep a couple of quid in the car ashtray to use for this purpose....just in case
  • If we had the money, we would have parked in the car park hospital, but we simply didn't and was put on the spot and had no money on us. There is no where to park around there. its a terrible place, the road is up the other side of roadworks by the hospital. The traffic is terrible.

I am not making up excuses, but just saying how it was at the time. But I can see your points here as to what a tribunial would state. But sometimes, there is just no where to park. What are people supposed to do.

I have been to hospital car parks before when they have also been full. Every road around there is mainly either red route or yellow lines everywhere.

    Thanks for responding anyway.
  • Is the fine reduced if you pay promptly?

Like another poster says, he could have gone home and come back for you later.

There would have been parks somewhere, even if it was a mile away.

Dont think youre going to get out of this one.
Your fault I'm afraid, i wouldnt stress too much about it,
    just pay up and smile.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
