They haven't realised what a huge responsibility it is yet. Once they have bought a bit of stuff and the interest has amounted to more than they spent they'll begin to get the picture.

There is only so much that an individual can spend on themselves, their family & their friends before further spending becomes a bit meaningless. Then what? I remember watching a documentary about Michael Jackson, out 'shopping' with the odd few million. I felt quite sorry for the guy!

Eventually, they'll have the choice of actively managing the money so that it benefits others, or they will start giving it away, which is a bit of a cop out. The former course is a job for life, though. Hopefully, by the time they get that far, they'll still have each other and, with luck, some of their original friends.

Would I put money on that? No. :(

have to say that a couple fairly locally (nearby city) who had a big win a few years ago regularly put on 'treats' for local school children and pensioners eg taking a large group of them to the panto...
they wanted their community which, AFAIK they still live in, to share their win and this is what they do. I also believe they support local charity appeals.

Another lady, even more local, has put money behind the local football team. So in a way that benefits others, too.

    From 18 months ago?

I have trouble getting the BBC search facility to find things older than about a week without clouding the results in extremely tenuous matches.
