Estate agent wins £56m

but the thing is if you do give £10-£20m where do you stop - you'll always be seen as never giving enough and there will always be friends and family that will miss out or even get less than they expected.JonnyBravo wrote: »Yeah I reckon lots of people would say that but very few would. I have to admit I don't think I would. Sure £10-20m to friends, family and charity but I think I'd keep most.
I'm sure that disgusts plenty of the righteous but I'm just being honest. I can think of plenty of stuff I'd like to do/buy and £6m ain't gonna last long.
not sure why they decided to go public - it's going to make things a bit more uncomfortable for them.0 -

Nah, I definately would (well I think I would, unless I could do something better with the money instead of just giving it, i.e, lock it away, use the interest to do something good with over a longer period etc).
Theres a couple who live nearby who won £2m on the lottery. Apparently (this is just the usual word of mouth stuff) even 4 years later, they still get people talking about their hardship purposely in front of them etc.
I couldn't be bothered with all that.
If pretty much no one knew the figure I had won, it would be a different kettle of fish, as it's not like I owuld look richer having £10m in the bank or £200m in the bank. But 56m, I dunno, think you could get a lot of hatred for that. I'd rather give away 40+ million of it and get some respect than have that uncomfortable feeling all the time with the way people look and act around you.0 -
I love the whole "it would be nice to have a 5,6 bedroom with a pool and space" etc. then they say "but we would like to stay round here".
YOU JUST WON 56 MILLION
Buy a few houses, knock em down, get one built, job done.0 -
what would an estate agent do with £56m?
probably be just about able to pay their own fees
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

I'd probably give £46m of it away pretty quickly, in terms of good causes.
Couldn't handle all that just being given to me.
I'd help out the Wilsons.
DH and I were talking about exactley what we'd do with it, and we thought we'd:
a: buy a house everywhere there is any chance we could live.
b: start an education foundation
c. a research fund for the things we have most interest in (selfish huh?)
d: create (vie purchase) allotments/co-operative local farms in areas we have lived in
e: probably start a eco friendly housing association
f:create family friendly employment in managing the schemes.
eta: I hope they are very happy and enjoy it, spend it well, and do some good with it. I wish I had been so lucky, but hurrah for them.0 -
How much acid can you get for a couple of million quid?
If I ever won that sort of money I might want to hook up No.10s water supply with a continuous drip. Not Again0 -
Good luck to them both. I genuinely hope it brings them lasting happiness.0
