free holiday scheme for disabled children??

  • I have just received £950 in thomas cook vouchers from the family fund (the first year you get more) and will get around £400 each year towards a holiday for my daughter till she is 16. I wasn't going to apply to the family fund as i thought it would be a waste of time, as although my daughter has down's syndrome , can do just as much as any other typical 4 year old. I'm so glad i did. We're all off to disney paris resort in july.
  • If the childs disability is anything that Cerebra would cover (ie brain injury, autism etc) I have heard that they have quite a bit of funds left this year.

They have now tightened up the rules and I re-applied for another holiday but was unsuccessful do to the nature of my child's disabilities not meeting the new criteria. .

When were you told this? My son has asperger's syndrome and we have had an award every year for the last 4 years, with the last one being last October.

Was told this 2 years ago when I re-applied and had a home visit. Will apply again now you have said you still got the holiday annually.

I was told this about 8 years ago and have never tried again despite having a complex autistic youngest son with severe asthma, bowel disorder and hypermobility (plus other things) and another son who has aspergers, mild brain damage and a bowel disorder!

    Maybe I should try again......
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
