    many thanks
  • Often local authorities run schemes for disabled children to attend for a week?

Have a look through this searchable charity database to see what charities may be able to help:

  • Some charities have holiday schemes for specific disabilities, but they are offten for children and not their parents.

I went on one last year booked holiday with Hoseasons (Thomas cook) for a holiday cottage. I had to pay something towards it but took my daughter for a week break in Cornwall, 1st holiday in 3 years, she was just under 18 but now shes 19 we cant go and I think you can only have one every 3 years too

Organisations to contact are :- family fund (very good) fhaonline, holidaysforall, 3hfund (upto £350 towards cost of Family Holiday) also try the 'Clevedon Forbes Fund' although you might have to do this through a Social Worker. Good Luck!
  • try the family fund - someone else has already posted the link
I have a disabled son and live in Scotland also. The fund provided me with a £500 grant to be used at Haven - we went to Seton Sands (which were very good with my disabled child) - the holiday was £400 and they let me convert the rest of the money into family fund vouchers to spend on the park with the rest - we had meals out on the park, played pool, hired golf buggys and booked swimming activities with the vouchers

I applied 3 years ago to the family fund I too received a holiday for my disabled son thorugh the family fund we were given £500. I was also given the opportunity to lern to drive. They pay for 35 driving lessons with BSM, one block of 14 lessons and in that time you need to pass your theory test (they pay for up to 2) after passing theory test you are then given the 2nd block of 31 lessons and they also pay for 2 practical test fees. Any lessons needed over the 45 they pay for are at a reduced rate of £16 a lesson (i personally needed another 5 lessons)

I re-applied for another holiday but was unsuccessful do to the nature of my child's disabilities not meeting the new criteria they said. The first application was done over the phone and the 2nd application I had a visit at home and it was explained how they had to tighten up the rules and shorten the criteria as their budget was cut. My son has Aspergers Syndrome and Type 1 diabetes and has no physical problems. Don't let it put you off applying. I was delighted that I passed my test and could never have afforded it myself and the holiday was amazing fun and well needed. To me they were a life saver and I only have positive things to say about the fund.

You can apply annually for a grant and in special circumstances they will allow you to apply earlier.

They also have the family fund extra site where you can donate money, earn 10% discount on products and also a clickthru shop where the fund earns money from the retailers just for you clicking through their links. It is worth having a look.

Edited (i will be applying again after reading messages from people who were successful in receiving a holiday when their child had Aspergers)
