Loyalty Discount

I have been with EON for years, what about some loyalty discount?
It must be fairly easy to program. They should have a joining date for customers on the customer record.

So, on the bill, you would have discounts for:
Dual Fuel, Direct Debit, Online and now Loyalty discount.

It should work like the car insurance No Claims Bonus. Lets say 1% per year, building up to five percent. All that budget on snaring new customers, what about spending some of it to hold onto existing customers.

  • Excellent idea Pincher, show a bit of appreciation for the customers they already have. As it is it is the good old loyal customers who don't have access to online facilities that get the worst deals.

    Hi Pincher,

Thanks for the feedback, again you’ve raised an interesting point, I’ll pass this on with your other comments.

As a side thought we do in many respects already do this, remember that customers who change supplier from E.ON don’t get their discounts applied to their final bill. So in effect they lose a discount that they would otherwise receive for remaining with us and remaining loyal.

    Why not?

Or looking at it another way they are cheated out of the discounts that they were promised when they signed up.

This is all in the T&C's. All customers are notified of this when joining E.ON.

Did you not receive your copy of the T&C's?

"Cheated", it is probably in the terms and conditions. Switch just after receiving a bill and you would only have a few days discount to lose.

My parents got caught with this a little while ago - they lost almost a quarter's discount over the winter period (was about a 16% discount, which is quite a hefty figure). When I found out that EOn do this, I decided not to switch to them and find another supplier.

It's beyond belief that even an employee could interpret the loosing of the discount when moving supplier as a loyalty benefit to encourage customers to stay.

At least other suppliers are more upfront and state a clear cancellation fee, and that's usually for moving before a stated date.

    Hi,

Final bill discounts, and cancellation fees are two separate things.

Cancellation fees are applied for breaking agreed contracts, no discounts on final bills is not about breaking contracts.

Discount continues to be applied to the bills of customers who remain supplied by us.

Putting an unfair clause in your terms and conditions doesn't make that term fair. Burying a clause in the T&Cs and failing to explain the effect it has on other promises you make is unfair and in my opinion designed to mis-lead the customer.

You publish a leaflet on how the DD scheme works and further in your FAQ explain how the DD discount is applied. Neither of these information publications explain the affect of the 'no discounts on final bill'.

    Why not?

Is it fair to prominently advertise the promise of a DD discount on all bills and in a much more obscure section of your literature/website insert a clause to release you from keeping this promise.
This is from your website re DD discounts: http://www.eonenergy.com/FAQ/Paying-By-Direct-Debit/Discounts-For-Paying-By-Direct-Debit.htm

    For convenience here it is:

    <H1>FAQs

FAQ Subject - Paying By Direct Debit

Are there any discounts for paying by Direct Debit?

Paying by fixed monthly Direct Debit will give you 6%* discount off your bills if you're a single fuel customer. Take gas and electricity with E.ON and pay by fixed monthly Direct Debit for both products, and we'll give you a total discount of 8%.*

    * Discounts quoted are for standard gas and electricity products. Customers on some of our restricted hour tariffs such as E10 may not get these discounts as they are reflected in the pricing structure of the product.

I can't believe you see a difference. Eon marketing have latched on to way of not calling it a cancellation fee.

Interestingly Energy Watch when it was in existance did not support Powergen, your predecessors in not giving discount on final bills. I know because I successfully challenged Powergen with Energy Watch's help and got my discount refunded
