Council not emptying my bin.

  • RESULT - I set off for work this morning only to see the bin men coming down our street so i promptly turned round to make sure they emptied my bin. As I got through my front door the wife met me at the bottom of the stairs and told me the bin men are here and as they were emptying the bins she was actually giving them a round of applause and shouting at them.

    Anyway bins are now empty.
  • I had a similar experience a few years ago.
I came out one morning to find the bin hadn't been emptied and the bin wagon was rounding the corner at the bottom of our road.
My bin lid was up by an inch and when I looked inside I saw that someone had put a soft drink can in our bin, stopping the lid from closing properly (a passerby that is, it wasn't a brand of soft drink we like - someone must have dropped it in our bin the night before as it sat on the pavement)
The simple act of opening the lid caused the can to fall over, allowing the lid to shut.
I got in my car and followed the bin wagon to the next street (a dead end...) and asked why my bin hadn't been emptied.
The snotty driver asked if I was from number 42 and when I said yes, proceeded to tell me they weren't obliged to empty a bin that had an open lid. I explained the reason for the lid not being fully closed and asked if they would empty it on their return journey up our road.
The driver and his mates became very abusive and refused.
So I used my car to block their wagon in on the dead end...
The three of them then threatened to punch me unless I moved my car.
I told them I wouldn't shift unless they promised to empty my bin.
Then the driver rang his Depot manager on his mobile and passed the phone to me. The manager was screaming at me down the phone and threatening to call the police. I told him that was fine and I'd call the local newspaper and that I was a journalist anyway and could he please spell his name for me.
Then he said he was on his way down and he'd use the bin wagon to force my car out of the way.
I told him that would be assault and he was fine to try it but the press would be here by then, probably with a photographer...
The upshot was that he did come down, along with his boss. I was then outnumbered five to one. Meanwhile all the neighbours were out, giving me moral encouragement and thumbs ups.
The big boss made the depot manager apologise for his phone behaviour and then he and his boss walked to my house (leaving my car blocking the wagon in) and he and his boss had a whispered conversation as they stood next to my bin.
I was then told that they couldn't empty my bin BUT...
as they'd noticed my bin was damaged (having a barely visible half inch crack in the lid) they'd exchange my bin for a new (empty) one.
So two hours later (I'd moved my car by then) a van arrived and my old, smelly (slightly damaged) full bin was swopped for a new one.
How much did that face saving excercise cost them?

I've just called them again and again there is no reason why my bin was'nt collected on 12th. This is an absolute joke im seriously close to filling my car up with rubbish bags and dumping them on the town hall steps. Think I'm gonna ring Bolton Evening News see if there interested in the story and citizens advise see if I can get a small claim for the petrol im using.

    I'm absolutely fuming..................

I picked up on the BEN part of your post

I remember reading about 12 months ago about an "issue" that developed between Chorley and Bolton Council... some parts of Bolton actualy get their waste collected by Chorley services (Bolton council pay Chorley to do so) as it works out more cost effective... something happened with this agreement and waste didnt get collected for ages...

this maybe the case in other areas and maybe worth looking into

edit... *DOH* just seen your last post that it got collected!
