my friend works in tescos reducing all the veg on Tuesday nights,
sometimes I go in there at 6pm when she starts and follow her around as shes reducing things, sometimes ive been cheeky picking up a bag of organic potatos saying "these look a bit off" and she puts a sticker on it for 20p lol..
we dont do it too often as she needs her job, but as they say "every little helps".0 -
I went to Asda last night at 7pm and picked up granny smiths apples (bags of 9/10) reduced from £1.35 to 10p, iceberg lettuce 5p, springonions 5p, bag of celery 10p, cucumber 5p. Bought loads of apples and enough salad stuff for the week and only spent just over £1 and all still really fresh. Our Asda does this quite regularly. Also got 3 packs of warburtons sliced soft rolls(12) for 10p each - lovely and fresh - now in freezer for lunches.:D

ps we always eat broccoli stalks and green bits of leeks, just cut off very end bits as usually dried out.0 -
Buy from a market, and as long as you have been a teacher, pick the stall with one of your ex pupils on it

You want bargain fruit and veg do you. Better than BYO and PYO is GYO. Grow your own!
On Good Friday I planted 3 type of seed potato and in the last 5 months I haven't bought a single potato and probably won't for the rest of the year.
I have had (and am still getting) courgette and marrow, strawbs, toms, letuse, onion and much more.
The only real cost is the allotment rent £18 per year - stick that in your grocery basket and eat it.
Most of the seed is saved from last year too - in case you're wondering.
Scrummy!!

I used to throw broccoli stalks away in the past. Now I always eat them - in fact they can taste nicer than the florets. You can always cut the stalks off if you prefer though and freeze them raw - when you have amassed enough use them to make broccoli soup! I have a big bag in the freezer at the moment waiting for me to get round to it...0
