  • Hi all,
...I am not being nice, I am more than angry but have never done any of this before - just despirited that after all this she can just crawl back into the woodwork.

Possibly I think that's why some posters are getting frustrated in this thread (no offence to you) in that if you follow up all the (lawful) ideas suggested along the way, there is no way on earth she can crawl back into the woodwork.

Brighton may be a city, but it's not a big place if that is where she operates.

There is a clear public interest issue for you with your MP - how many other constituents have been/are being/will be stolen from by this person?

(BTW, if it turns out she has a track record of this sort of thing with other people, then you are potentially looking at criminal intent - not a civil matter)

    Anyway, here's a link:

    http://www.parliament.uk/about/contacting/mp.cfm

    if you are right in Brighton itself, it's likely to be one of these two;

  • Your Mp is either Des Turner (Kemptown) or David Lepper (Pavillion) depending on your postcode.

Chin up EL - this must be so emotionally roller-coastery for you, up and high one minute, down in the dumps the next. This woman is not the first to have done this - keep fighting.

i let a flat to a guy who then relet it to others and stole their deposits - i went to the police and in turn they referred me to the local private landlords office of the local council - they had had HUNDREDS of complaints about these guys, and the police are now taking action, slowly, but, they are acting. Who knows what the police might say ..... This particular local authority sees it as its duty to help prosecute this "civil" matter as it is in the public interest.

This woman is taking the mickey ....

I would go thru the Private investigator route first tho '

having gone this far, nothing would stop me now .....

anyway - you do want the "Longest Thread on MSE AWARD" dontcha ????

    Local news paper ?
    Watchdog ?

Defo go to your MP - they are there to uphold the law for you - their surgery times will be in your local papers, or ring up westminster and ask his secretary.

Is there an Ombudsman for the courts ?

did you try a local solicitors "first half hour free" ?

Re Electoral roll - i have just been following up un-registered addresses (for the first year each council has to make super-human efforts to get a full register) and it is amazing how very few people care about being removed from the public one - this could be her Achilles heel.

I know it might mean sitting reading the darn thing for hours till you find her, but, what satisfaction if you did !!!

Here is a link for the directory of Private Investigators by county. If nothing else, get a quote. One phone call by these guys to the right contact (overt or otherwise) will probably get you the address quickly. If you are confident of winning your case - then add the cost onto the claim.
    Get for it!!!

The new Electoral register will be published and available to view on 1st December 2006 by the local authority. Everyone is required by law to register but they can choose whether or not to vote.

It is possible to "opt out" of the edited register which is the version which can be sold to any interested party for marketing purposes etc.

Anyone can visit the local authority offices and examine the full register, supposedly for electoral purposes e.g. to confirm you are on the register.

Everyone needs to register these days as you cannot carry out any financial transactions - apply for cred card etc without being on the register.

Unfortunately you need to know what area of the register you want to look at as it is in electoral wards and by street within wards. So you need some luck first as it will be very hard to find her otherwise.

Here's what I would do - look at her last known address on the new register on 1st December and see if she has re-registered at that address. If so pursue her there.

If not then try and contact the buyer of that property and see if you can obtain her solicitor's details from moving house and try and get a new address from that route.

The buyers may also be able to advise you if mail is still arriving for her there - if none is arriving that indicates she is having mail re-directed.

The one certainty now is that you know you are dealing with an experienced criminal - she knows what she is doing - I think perhaps the local newspaper may be interested in a storyline aout the ruthlessness of the crooked landlord? May be able to help you sniff her out.

I do think the idea of usinga honeytrap - someone unknown to enquire about renting a flat. Or some means of getting the LA to confirm they no longer deal with her in any properties. Anyone know any bailiffs or anyone else who could advise on trying to find this character. I want to see her caught and getting her comeuppance.

Hi all - thanks for the advice - thing is as I don't know where she lives, I can't talk to an MP yet if you see what I mean?

I know this may be wrong, but I am so angry that I'm prepared to give you all her last known address - maybe the power of MSE will buoy me back to the surface again!

Are there any repercussions if I list the address here?

PS: IrishJohn - sadly can't use a honeytrap as she only rents one other property with this letting agent, and that is let long term to the newsagent downstairs.

of course you can talk to your MP - the issue you need solving right now is HOW to find her current address - at least go and see what he has to say - he may be able to use DP in a way you cannot.

before you release her old address - think EL - how will this help you ?

i know you are angry, but, you do not want to be accused of stooping to her level. You have not yet reached the last straw position.

if anyone near to you can help, perhaps send it to them by PM ?

  • Well if you want to PM lots of us with whatever details you have for the witch we will see what we can do. I would not mind seeing her details on the open forum but we must not do anything that would be bad for Martin.
