Its not only the money - Must admit that my son's school is not too bad for this - I am finding it increasingly difficult with my son to make time for his nightly reading, spelling and timetables prep for weekly test AND do a six section project every 6 weeks. Amongst all the other stuff going on in the evenings, i have a rush on to do it all ready for 8.30 bedtime. The project work can't possibly be done in the evenings so is left until weekends. We have received no guidelines as to how much is suppoosed to be done, what the marking criteria is etc.

It is hard for a year three pupil to start doing projects when they don't really have a clue about research etc - they didn't even have a library visit until after term three!! You have no choice but to put in time yourself to help. As much as i don't mind helping and putting in time for his education, i do have other things to do plus now another little one starting reception in September!!

Also think project has started to be a comp for parents to 'do one better' than other parents - one even went and adopted a red panda at the local zoo!!!

The thing that gets me is all the photos. This year we've had:

    Individual Photo (Ok)
    Class Photo (Ok)
Photo taken of DD with an owl (!!!!!!?)
Photo of entire school taken from a helicopter with the children arranged on the ground to spell the school name (double !!!!!!?)

I know you don't have to buy them, but you do feel a bit pressured.

The other things like money for trips and donations to the fete I don't mind. I did mind having to buy a new uniform for the coming year because they've changed it. This is made worse because it's her last year before moving to high school and her old uniform was fine.
