I have two cats - one is a sometimes outy hunter - the other is an indoor cat.

the indoor cat (mia) is much more cuddly than the former (chi)

neither were too keen on the cat basket until I moved the furniture around & this particularly cold winter. Chi started sleeping in it - it's fur fabric lined & situated on top of where a pipe runs underneath the laminate. Usually Mia sat under TV on top of the Freeview box - she recently started snuggling in with Chi in the basket. Chi has been picking at his food & today I discovered to my horror that he (his doings are larger than hers & lighter in shade - sorry but I do somehow always know who's are who's by appearance/size) had done some !!!!!! on the black rug in my bedroom & was happily esconced on my bed! I was livid.

I will go back to barracading the bedroom door shut now - except when I am asleep/needing to be in my bedroom. It's only due to the cold snap that I even allowed them in my bedroom at any other time!

Any tips? To be honest am fuming & was very tempted to give Chi the back of my hand (I won't - but there is no excuse whatsoever - they have two litter trays & I have been at home since Wednesday afternoon so the trays have been cleaned more often than usual)! Downstairs lady has a dog (she moved in around December) but there's nothing I can do about that.....

  • my set up is exactly the same except that my cats are brothers and one is an indoor and the other an outdoor. When they came to us they were terrified of my dogs but after a sensible and lengthy intro they are all fine now.
My indoor cat has on a number of occasions "DONE IT " around the house in the bathroom on the landing etc. the thing is he doesn't do it all the time probably about 7 times in three years. This tells me there is something that has really frightened him so I just clean it up and do/say nothing and it does not happen again. I suggest you work on the basis that something terrifying has happened and it will just be a one off until the next time. good luck

Did everything appear normal, it wasn't an emergency and there isn't any possibility he was trapped in the room temporarily? Poops that are not buried can apparently be a sign of stress or of dominance, maybe try a Feliway diffuser if it happens again?

    I do feel for you...

Any chance you want to swap your cat for mine?

Mine does not poo outside the cat litter box.. he pees... ON MY BED....

He has 3 litter trays (chcnged twoce per day as he has kidney problems) in a 2 bed flat just for himself.

Any time he dissaproves of somethign (anything) he does that - pees on the bed of the "guilty one".

Recetly on my one (3 times in the last 36 hours - so bad that the whole mattress was soeaked EACH time, do nto ask how I sleep pls).

Before it was my daughter's one (she went away for a week and he was not happy).

Sometimes "the dog gets it" and he pees on dog's bed (they are friends but cat is the boss here).

As Tiger is 10 and has kidney problems (kidney cancer) I just change the bedding (the guy in laundrette is my bes mate now, service wash for featehr duvets probably pays all his weekely wages as I can be there 2-3 times per week), sigh and... give him a cuddle - he hasn't got much left poor thing.

But - what I am trying to say... sign of distress and sometimes impossible to figure out what the trigger may be.

Good luck with sorting this out :)

update: discovered another `protest poop' on bedside rug this evening. As it also felt damp I decided to chuck it away. I will consider buying an identical basket so Mia & Chi don't have to share.

Kitchen, bathroom & bedroom have vinyl flooring. Living room & hallway have laminate. Thank goodness I have slippers!

I discovered a puddle around the scratching post :0( - I have turned on the Feliway & am hoping I have a full spare to use when that one finishes (I will order some online tonight) & for the time being will have it on all the time. I have a feeling Chi is feeling `restricted' by new neighbours dog (who tells me that her dog loves cats - but my cats do not love any dog or even most children - I have no control on what goes on whilst I am asleep or at work on the walkways around this block....).

The annoying thing is that last night was babywipe & fleatreatment night. I only got as far as Furminating & cleaned ears & did toothpaste & then discovered protest poop. So to de-flea or not to de-flea - I can't really hang around - it will have to be done tomorrow! Chi doesn't like any kind of grooming - Mia actually loves to be handled for any reason whatsoever....

Update: there was another puddle (but no solids) in a wrong place this morning. Reckon Chi has some `toilet' problems as he isn't looking himself so he's going to the vet tomorrow morning.

update: feed cats on Bonzita last night. No food this morning & took Chi to vets - he's lost a fair bit of weight. Vet says he thinks behaviour could be due to neighbours dog (despite this being 2 months since it arrived) however he may have cystitis so gave him anti-biotic injection & I am to feed 1/2 tablet once a day & observe.

I asked vet about the wet/dry food scenario in case of urinary probs (Chi is a Tom) and he said that quality of ingredients more important. Although he did say I should start feeding senior food (Chi is about 10) and that they would screen for kidney or other problems if his condition didn't improve. So it's watch & observe for the time being.

more inappropriate soiling: !!!!!! on a settee, cream rug and outside a litter tray, & a puddle on the bedroom floor. Typically the meds ran out 24 hours ago, I have been home & both cats are eating well. As problem seems to have `resurfaced' have made a new vets appointment for Monday morning so it was suggested in the meantime shutting each cat in a room with a litter tray so at least it's easier to `find' or `contain' - this is no easy task in a tiny, 1-bed flat so it's all still open/accessible whilst I consider my options (definitely going out 2nite to get away from the irritation I feel - these deposits all took place during the night whilst I was asleep!).

The front door did rattle a bit with the high winds but I have been home MOST of the time with them. I have turned the Feliway back on & will have it on all the time.

I am not happy - any ideas?

If your cat has been on antibiotics has the vet suggested you use a probiotic supplement to repopulate the gut flora? Antibiotics unfortunately wipe out everything, they can make some humans have 'loose movements' and I would imagine cats too. Thinking about the threads I have read on Purrs people do tend to leave the Feliway running for weeks or months, until the stress habit is broken.

He is poorly: I picked him up today & he cried & is tense so there is something still wrong with his insides :0(

I am taking him back to the vets on Monday morning & hope he doesn't suffer too much over the weekend.
