It's probably abrasion caused by the dust and grit trapped in the fibres of the rug scratching the surface of the laminate. A bit like rubbing it with Cif or toothpaste. I don't know a lot about laminate finishes but I don't suppose you could re-varnish it?

i had the same problem - washable mats/carpets are the only solution, but make sure they fit in your washing machine. i brought 2 sets, when one in the wash i get the other carpet out.

my doggies are constanly bringing in wet/dirt on paws so they will always be a little smelly, bless them

it sounds like the little varnish/coating has worn on the floor where the mat was previous. does the sun beam on this floor, because the sun has prob done a bit of damage with the colour of the flooring

We had this problem with our wooden floor in our old house, the abrasion from the rug caused it but was rectified with a re-oiling. But for laminate I think you would need to polish the floor, there are special polishes specifically for laminate, but i don't know how effective they would be. I think HG and Liberon make a polish/laminate reviver......HTH.

I've found another thread on this subject, so I'll merge this so that you can see other suggestions :)

    Hey there

Does any-one have any ideas how to make my laminate floors look shiny and bright. I usually mop them with washing-up liquid but they come up very dull :(

Any green ideas would be especially appreciated (and the easier for me to do the better :rotfl:)

    Thank you :D

Hi, try adding vinegar to your bucket. Always works well for me :D

Seakay - not at all offended - the thought never crossed my mind! :o

Tried it today and it is better! But I don't think the mop helps! So I think I will get myself some microfibre clothes! And I do like the sound of bamboo clothes. We don't have Wilkos in Scotland (that I know of anyway) but I'll see if we I can hunt some down

And I didn't realise ecover had floor cleaner (it was their washing up liquid I have been using!)

Thanks - I'll have those floors shining bright before the week is out :D
    Wilkinsons are available online...:D

my mum uses whatever washing up liquid is on offer and washes her floors with a damp cloth and washing up liquid. her floors are always so shiny. my wood floor never comes up shiney, but even when it was new it didn't so i'm thinking it is a matt finish compared to my mums which isn't.

Thanks, but no theres no fluff stuck !, jst looks dull in the sq where rug was grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr its annoying me lol

Could it be that some mud/sand/soil has got through the rug and been scratched in to the top layer of laminate? just a thought i have a dog and his crate gets dusty sand/soil in it ?
