None of those are big company shares like in the first post.
Well done on your success, small caps can be very risky though I think

I did see BEM beowolf mining a few times, they got proof of deposits right. I find it hard to invest in a company without earnings though

I tried RRL who got a 67% increase in reserves recently with zero increase in the shares :(http://proactiveinvestors.co.uk/columns/fox-davies-capital/3595/afren-range-resources-beowulf-mining-kefi-minerals-and-others-feature-in-fox-davies-capital-newsflash--3595.html

p.s. I have tried spreadbetting and gave that up after 2 months as I found it was just too risky for my tastes.

As a 22 year old investor I do enjoy investing on the markets and up until now it has been relatively successful.

    ...

This what works for me and obviously everyone is different with different risk profiles.

That is a great post, really inspiring for other young investors. I've been tempted to put money into S&S ISAs because of the risk of losing it all - I really can't afford to. On the other hard, I'm so bored of the really low cash ISA rates. It might be time to try out S&S, just seeing your returns is making me salivate, so to speak!

One thing to bear in mind, is I could have been posting this in 2007, and now would probably be showing a loss.

Its a mixture of timing, doing your research, patience, and as with a lot of things, luck.

Its not really any different. 1 unit is 100 shares. People get carried away though, 100 shares of Royal dutch is quite alot but 100 shares of 5p RRL isnt anything so got to watch that really though the risk is also inverse

Aside from that the spreadbet companies themselves have done well. IGG LCG and partygaming are a few Ive seen. Also ptec and will aim hill you recognise GVC is euro based, all pay gambling taxes

Also there is EMG a big hedge fund

I didnt realise you were so young, you done well

Maybe search threads i've created for 'tips'? Got a bit fed up with this site after 'ramping comments' about CAD at 16p (now 21.5p).
Great success with BEM - 4p when i created that thread and now about 16p. XEL has doubled and a bit more. HER doubled in 2 days. Trumpet blowing perhaps but it has been an ace year for commodity players - mainly my game. 200% gain thus far since created this thread - quite funny as most scorned and predicted best i'd do would be around 5/6% per annum i recall...
CAD is now the share I'd be really putting big money into - I've links to someone very close to the co and whilst not insider info, certainly big things are coming on there.

ps Given up on thinking about a 'steady income' outside of the market, will just wait for rates to rise and buy a basket of bonds. Best of luck.

riskyb i wouldn't follow or buy the services of a tip sheet in fact if i hold a share that is tipped i wait for the lemmings to buy then dump and usually buy my holding back a few later though in many cases a tip is a signal for me to exit. Techinvest is perhaps the exception.

You started me off thinking about XEL from a tip you posted here and after some research I invested and I seem to be 20% up in profit. Slightly annoyingly i did not have a larger sum of money to invest at the start. Now I have some more but I am not sure that at 246.5 if it is the right time.
Anyway just wanted to say a massive thank you for this pointer and please do keep sharing with us.
And good luck with living off your savings/sharedealings.

I'm very pleased for you, fortunately i went in very very heavy :-)))
Believe £15-20 plus is achievable though i may well have gone by then to look for my next multibagger. At £7 XEL may double but i certainly don't think it will be a multibagger from there so i'll start 'dropping a few onto the market'. Opportunities like XEL seldom come around so they have to be seized upon.
