well, I am part of the daydream fund challenge as started by CoolTrikerChic on the gardening board. Most of the others are saving for a house with land and smallholding but I am part way there already! My house sits in about 1/3 acre...
My fund is at 0 at the moment as I spent about £1000 buying two sheds, two greenhouses and materials for about 25 raised beds.... now all I need to do is get them put up/in!! OH is getting a digger in a few weeks so that he can level off the bottom part of the garden and then the greenhouses and sheds can go up.... and its up to me to build the raised beds. You haven;t seen my woodworking skills! I;'m hoping that OH will see what a bloody mess I make and offer to do them for me :D.
The aim is to grow our own veg, being veggie I eat a lot and so do the kids..... we get through a bag of apples every two days al well as oranges, carrots, cucumbers etc. Once the veg patch is up and running I am planning to save up to get some chickens so I will have to spend some money on a fixed run, house etc..... The next thing on the plan after that is bees.... I LOVE honey! I should imagine the bees are quite a few years off yet though!
I grew veg a few years ago (haven';t been able to for a few years because of problems with the soak away in that it wasn't! We had spetic sludge at the bottom of the garden! Nice!) and really enjoyed it. I want to get the kids involved too as I think it is soooo important for kids to know where there food comes from and the effort it takes to grow it.

I shall pop off to the garden centre tomorrow to get some compost and start sewing some seeds this weekend I think.

A bit of a ramble, but you did ask!!!!

ooohh, ducks... I like duck eggs. Do they really make that much mess?

Wow :T that all sounds amazing! Our goal is also to have a smallholding, i'd love to be totally self-sufficient. A long way off for us though, but we'll get there. That's a good plan with OH - i do that with my OH all the time, he thinks i'm totally useless but i'm great at delegating :D funnily enough, i was only talking about bee keeping this afternoon, as i was at Totnes market admiring all the Devonshire honey, yum! they're amazing creatures. Is the gardening board on here? I might pop in - i love gardening but my knowledge is very limited.

We have daily duck eggs but i haven't tried them yet, OH loves them. Yes they do make a huge mess - they've got the run of the garden at the moment and because it's been raining lots they skid around and dig up the grass (we've got Indian Runners so they're very active). We're planning on re-designing the garden anyway and so they've saved us hiring a rotavator! I wouldn't be without them, they make me laugh so much, especially when they chase the dog around.
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

ooh, duck eggs make the best victoria sponge! You will have to try it, just remember to weigh the eggs as they are bigger than hens eggs.....

As for the bees, I'm not sure that I will be able to keep them in the garden as OH is allegric to bee stings, but I was going to shout around the local farms to see if someone could lend me a corner of their field in return for rent in honey.... when I get my bum in gear with the veg!!

have slipped for past two weeks and not kept my totals up to date with ebay (on the word doc i set up), going to have to get it back up to date at some point

realised this afternoon that i'm doing 6 days in a row (although 3 days are just 4hrs, 4hrs, 3hrs) but it means i have to miss my HMS support group on wednesday cos no-one to cover (already asked one lass n she wouldnt, t'other 3 are working already that day n 1 staff on hols) so gutted bout that unless can sort out lift to train station from the meeting to get me to work on time (it's sumit to think about!) cos we got 3 new members coming to the meeting

fingers crossed for tomoro, OH going to see an ex-work colleague who is now boss of place (things have changed lots for the better but OH wont work there cos big drop in pay for him) n see if they got vacancies n to put my name down for if owt crops up. It's same pay as I'm on now but better shift patterns and overtime paid as ££ not time-off-in-lieu

big decision - me n OH sat down last night and made a decision that come august then we're going to be looking for somewhere else to live, nothing wrong with here but we'd like garage/better parking and i'd love an upstairs bathroom (or one that isnt freezing cold constantly), going to be hard as we want to stay in this area cos it on bus route, close to local shops open till late, handy for town centre etc etc

right, i'm frozen so off for my tea and then head for a nap as am wrecked

    Yay! I've crocheted a flower :)

I have had a crochet flower book for ages and I keep getting it out and drooling over them and never actually making any, so I took it to music today to do while DD was playing and I wasn't in my lesson. I made a very ropey one, but have worked out what one instruction meant now and have made a decent one :) It's only one marked easy, but I'm very happy with it. :)
  • Night mabel!

Yay 2cats, well done! :T I love crocheting flowers, creates something out of nothing fairly quickly, doesn't it?! I've got a sunflower sitting here that I crocheted, can't figure what to do with, but I'm sure something will occur to me eventually!

Em, I'm jealous, I love ducks, can't wait for the day when I've got my little farm, sigh.
