    Munchki,

Perhaps you lovely people could help me :)

Years ago I fell in love with making wedding favors, I did 200 for my uncles wedding and they were amazing. I love anything pretty and intricate like that and as I cant work I have a lot of time on my hands. I would love to get into the business of doing favours and anything like that.

Even with my xmas presents everyone said how lovely they were because I packaged them all and made most of them from scratch and they were unique.

I just don't know where to start. The only thing I can think of is to make lots of individual ones and make a portfolio for them. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hers the relevant bit I think
Emminently you described me to a T !!
Thats why I started reading The Now Habit book that I quoted the other day. Its great because it really helps understand those blocks and how beating yourself up and saying just do it doesn't help but actually makes it harder to get going.
Some great info in there but its hard to take bits in isolation.
However one good tool is the reverse calendar. where you start with the finished task and work backwards with what steps you need. ie you want to open a shop. you put that and then work backwards so steps immediately prior to that might be hire staff, buy stock, and refit shop.
Then take each of those and do the same for each. so for hire staff might be book venue for interviews, write interview questions, invite candidates. then take each of these steps and write what needs to happen immediately before them etc until you kind of have a branch tree or mind map spreading backwards from the competed project to the actions that you can take immediately.
There will be a few different places you can start in all the branches you generate and no one of those is wrong so pick one that feels good and do it. Each bit is like its own mini project and less overwhelming than the whole yet each bit carries you towards the whole.

You could try what a lot of us tried - write down where you want to be in a year's time and work backwards. I think it was jo who told us about it - what would you need to have done to be where you want to be, then work a stage back from that - what would you have to do to get to there. Eventually you will get back to the beginning and will have quite a few smallish but manageable things you need to do in order to get to the next stage.

Not sure if that makes sense, but I'll try and find the original post.

<are you still around jo? You could probably put it better than me!>

That sort of makes sense. Yeh :) Although to be fair I have no idea, it would be nice to in a years time to have got a portfolio of what I am capable of and to have perhaps done 1 wedding.

We've got a fair few weddingy and crafty people on here. I'm sure you'll get some inspiration and support winging its way to you baby moo. It sounds like something you really enjoy which is a fantastic start.

We can't wait to see it either saucy.!!
Baby moo sometimes on here it helps reading the threads and letting your ideas just whirl around your head for a while. Then start joining in the chat and things quite often sperk off an idea on how to do things or what things to do.
Its usually a bit busier than this.

I see what you mean, I am starting to get little ideas just by replying to you lovely people :)

Baby moo its called the reverse calendar and it works well on small things where you have a clear idea of the end thing and can work well for larger less defined things too but probably in those cases it will actually help you get clearer ideas.

    edit.
it doesn't have to be where you want to be in a years time either. It could be any project or part of it and any timescale. But I like Joeys idea of having a vision for a years time and working back too

    Hi Hales *waves*

Both and more besides, whatever the couple want I can do, tailor make them to each couples specifics. Who says favors have to be in boxes or bags? :)
  • I'm feeling so happy. Three orders today (thank you, guys) has done wonders for my confidence, and soon enough I'll have a gorgeous new site, and lots of goodies will turn up tomorrow so I can make more new designs. Exciting!
