I took photos of everything earlier anyway, because i'm sad like that obviously :o so that's fine. The guy gave me the list of lettable standards, copies of gas safety checks and a satisfaction survey. Maybe my councils standards are just low. The ceilings are absolutely thick with tar aswell, I guess I just thought they'd do .. well .. something!

I will be writing a list for Monday, whoever sees me then will hate me! Don't get me wrong, i'm not the type of person who feels the system owes them everything, I just can't bare the idea of my son going anywhere near that hole or the idea the council system thinks it's an acceptable standard for him. If it was just me i'd deal with it.

Maybe backwardsly, i've decided to work on flooring first, since i'll have to wait for my 3 pots of free paint (silly idea) something with a big impact to try and make it feel slightly more like our home :o

I never thought that about you my dear.... You are right to expect somewhere safe and clean..... If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know...

I understand you wanting somewhere better for your son
Find out if they will give you any rent free time to get the place sorted out that would give you time to clean before you move in properly
Ive had my share of bad experience with council houses, what gets me is how do they get like that in the first place, one place I had smelled of wee and we had to replace floors to get rid of the smell and I had a crawling baby at the time nightmare

    Thanks :D
I'll be ok though hopefully, i'm taking my friend round there tomo who's good at DIY and an ex plasterer tomo night to see what they think is the best plan of action; i'll get there, it'll just take longer than I imagined. It takes more than a squat to beat me!

Hey all, been offline for a couple of days and still catching up.

Saucy, I missed the pic of your notebook, can you tell me where it it.

My 16 year old daughter is into the new Alice in Wonderland movie at the moment so that could be another theme.

    That's horrendous!
I think what's bugging me is that they're gonig to be charging me for the 'priveledge' of living somewhere uninhabitable and it's going to be MY money, not their's that makes the place an ok property. It doesn't quite seem fair, at the end of the day they will be profiting from me doing the place up.
  • Do they do 'make over' grants in your area?
You can claim something in Warwickshire to redecorate council places. I'm not sure how you qualify, though. I was never housed, just told I wasn't priority at 16, as I was too old.

    Maybe that'll help?

EE is a bit more boring then I thought it would be...
