I have a pal who works for FV as a service upholsterer,He can change all the covers on a 3 seater sofa in under 4 hours, the new covers come ready to fit.not a bad offer if you still like the style/comfort of your exsisting furniture.

I find it really hard to beleive this is the most cost effective way for them to do it though - not least when this range has totally fixed cushions - its all sewn and glued together in stages when made, you can physically see that.

Either way im waiting till Thursday to see what they say - but if they refit it it will have to be real leather this time round as this stuff is just horrible tbh.

Since all the new upholstery parts will be FREE issue from the factory and FV have to pay my pal anyway its very cost effective.
(Labours very cheap in the far east:eek:)

doubt the parts are free, FV were the ones who put a real leather sticker on it - not the manufacturer from what I am reading...

apparently these were always advertised as bicast leather, not all real leather - I know what I saw when I bought for sure.

I need to find a copy of the original advert mind just to know exactly what the deal is.

I've been offered a sectional repair where they repair only the affected sections (not the whole sofa cover - which means refitting bicast leather again and presumably therefore signing off that I accept its bicast)...or a credit note in store, which is affected by a 4 year usage reduction - which is quite reasonable, but given how much they charge for sofa's now indicates the possiblity of a top up of up to £500 to replace.

I haven't made a decision yet, but I am also really not happy with the offer to be honest...I mean even if they gave me ALL my money back I would still have to pay plenty to buy a replacement sofa set from them...

I don't suppose anyone has a copy of the ad do they? The pruchase price at the time was £799.

    Thanks :)

To anyone considering doing this or still trying to resolve this with FV please PLEASE persevere.

We've just entered into a settlement with them after going backwards and forwards with various different offers over the last few weeks.

The first of which was a store credit to use in store - our two Scala sofa's were bought for £799 - we were offered a £599 credit to spend in store on a new set of sofa's and have the existing sofa's removed (£200 difference was a very fair £50 annual wear and tear charge)

We declined as the nearest sofa to what we had would cost £999, requiring a further £400 being spent.

After declining that, we were then offered a choice of three ranges all with a £999 purchase price, which we could have for a one off payment of £200 (effectively getting the last four years free).

We again declined as we feel that we could replace for less next time round - we then agreed to a substantial partial refund of the original purchase price which should be with us in the coming days - FV have been very good over the past couple of weeks - surprisingly good in fact - have to give them the credit they deserve on this, its been a very calm and stressfree experience - especially as we bought in November 2006.

yeah you gotta pay £4 to get the ad - as it were FV hsve settled with me over the phone without even coming out to see the sofas and the condition they have ended up in - we're talking a substantial settlement on the original purchase price of £799 -just waiting for it to hit the card tomorrow or Tuesday I hope - very happy all round :)
  • I am so glad I read these posts thanks to all who have posted you have been invaluable, Got exactly the same problem with a Scala sofa, one of a pair purchased in May 2006 from FV. peeling, cracking, discolouring etc. I am assuming you all contacted customer services via letter.... what a surprise their web based email service doesnt work.
There really should be some kind of mass expose ... Mr Lewis on tv perhaps????...of this problem as i am sure there are a lot of customers who are having exactly the same problem but have no idea what to do/.
Will let everyone know how it goes. ... and if it doesnt my brother in law is a judge.... looking forward to this one HA!

within 12 hours of contacting FV the manager of the store where we purchased the sofas from rang my wife (finally managed to get their form submission page to accept my email on their "contact us") webpage. They are offering to replace with a pair of Dante sofas. Described as leather apparently... we shall see.
searched the net for anything bad about the Dante brand and cant find it yet.
dont expect they will be the best quality ever but so far hassle free.

to anyone with similar problems go for FV they cant get away with it and they know it.

no need to call on the judge.
