Yes, it is bizarre. I'd advise you not to contact them because it'll just make you angry as they'll say stuff like 'it's not a guaranteed service' or 'Try again tomorrow'. I do a lot of Faster Payments. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it works up to a certain amount but that amount seems to vary. It's very hard to discern a pattern. The only tentative conclusions I've drawn are (1) that it is more likely to succeed during working hours and (2) if you try several times it's likely to be even more restrictive and (3) it's easier to use Tesco, NatWest or Lloyds for Faster Payments.

Staff know the limits but aern't allowed to tell even tho its common knowledge on forums like these.

If a customer says, will £10 work, staff will say i dont know.
If a customer says, will £500 work, still will also say I dont know.

Its stupid but the banks view of things is that it is for the customers own good... A load of old...

It's even more daft than just the likes of us knowing it. Under the entry for BOS -- which should include Halifax, although it doesn't actually say so -- the £2500 limit is confirmed on the UK Payments site (the body overseeing Faster Payments), so heaven knows why Halifax think they should persist with this 'secrecy'...
