Abbey - Faster Payments

I am trying to send a faster payment (£500) from a Halifax account to an Abbey account but Abbey is rejecting my payment.

Has anybody else had these problems with Abbey?

Is it just coming up with the message 'on this occasion we are unable to send this as a faster payment; it will go by our bill payment service instead', or is the payment actually being rejected?

If you get the message about it going by the bill payment service, then it's a problem at Halifax's end (although this is unusual, they've been very good for FPs up to £2500 recently). Try again in a couple of hours.

If it's saying that the payment has been rejected by Abbey, then either
    1) The sort code and/or account number are incorrect. Contact the account holder to check; or
    2) The account has been closed. Contact the account holder to check (or Abbey if it's one of your accounts); or
    3) Abbey are having problems. Contact Abbey to check.

    Zero Faster payments

    Zero Customer service

    Zero In branch service

    Zero Staff competence

My advice would be to get a real bank account.
Money is the headache, money is the cure!
  • Halifax faster payments is bizarre - I entered £500 as the transfer out amount and the screen appears letting me know that the transfer will be a faster payments one. So I select the "back" option and revised the amount up to £900. Now it tells me that the txn can't proceed as a faster payments txn, so "back" once again and put amount back to £500. Now tells me that txn can't proceed as faster payments txn!

    Bonkers.

Much the same here on Friday. Was TF £1500 to Natwest, which Halifax confirmed would go FP. Then I looked at the destination a/c details and for some reason thought (mistakenly: must have had a senior moment) I'd chosen the wrong payment instruction. So clicked 'Back', checked, and it was the right one after all, so repeated the request for £1500 to NW... and it refused FP this time, having accepted it less than a minute before.
    As you say... bonkers.

Perhaps there's a software glitch associated with the back button (failure to re-initialise properly?). But you would have thought that something as vital as this would have been thoroughly tested .....
  • How I agree with Yorkiebar, Halifax FPs arenot only bizarre but their attitude in their call centre is eeven more bizarre.

On Friday a friend transferred £3600 from his HSBC account which arrived in my Halifax Reward Account almost immediately. I then tried to transfer out £2700 to a citibank account. Firstly and most annoying is having to wait until today for it to be actioned and then a further 3-4 days for it to arrive.

I phoned Halifax to ask if I needed to enrol for FPs and was told:

    a) FPs are not guaranteed because it a new system?
    b) I was probably over the transfer limit.

OK, what is the transfer limit....sorry, we can't tell you. So I asked if I could try £10, then £20, then £100 etc until I discovered the limit to be told that wouldn't work because you are only allowed one FP per day and the limits are constantly changing.

Its almost as though they want you to go overdrawn and as far as FPs they seem a total waste of time. What a sad indication of how banks tret their loyal customers.

    Sorry rant over.

It seems to me that they do have a glitch whereby if you get to the confirmation part of the transfer but DON'T actually go ahead and confirm but use the BACK button instead then their system takes the amount off your daily transfer limit/amount/whatever anyway! That's how it appears to me.
