o2 prepaid card

I got one of these in December for online purchases were I don't want to have to use my debit card.

So far I'm not impressed. The card has a daily load limit of £100. I accidentally tried to add £200 and rather than reject it, they accepted the money (according to the verified by visa e-mail) but then told me there had been a payment error.

I'll have to double check my account balance tomorrow and then give them a ring :(

I don't see the point in these cards, it's just the same a s a Visa Debit card. Your just giving money to o2 for using that and all you get is a text to say you used the card?!

    I can't get this card.

I am an O2 customer, but when i try online, their software canot identify my home address (they claim royal mail gave them the address software)

so when i try to find my door number amonst the others in the 52 house block of flats it doesn't show the house numbers.

was supposed to be fixed within a month back in November.. i check regulary but nothing has changed.

Only wanted it for ryan air flights but now the card payments have changed there is little point now

Why? What else did you expect it to do?

When you hear so many stories about fraud, chip & pin abuse, card cloning, etc, I think this makes the o2 card a safer bet. In my case, I use my o2 card to buy anything online and in the shops. I know that if for some reason my 02 card gets used fraudently, there's nothing to take, because I only load it with either enough money to cover a single largish transaction or £10 to cover small purchases. With a debit or credit card, someone determined enough could empty your account in a matter of minutes, without you knowing. With a prepaid card, as I said, if the money is not there, the transaction will be declined.

Your protected more using a credit card under the credit agreement act.
Ref emptying your bank account with money, you are also protected against that too. (providing your not negligient with your PIN.

I have had the same problem. Phoned up and they said they had sorted it, then when I tried again, it said I already had a card??? Have given up on this.
  • Well I like mine, load it up every week and use mine for expenses and fuel.

It helps me budget (and if your anything like me not overspend!).

When I first got it they came out with some gobblegook about loading funds via different computers and sometimes it not working. Once they sorted out the loading from Barclays or Nat West then fine. Some stand alone link machines don't work but in general its fine for Atms, shops and fuel. I don't use it at pre-pay pumps as there are not enough funds on it.

The daily load limit is £500 on mine.

I would agree that any large purchases should be done on a regular credit card for added protection, but for general day to day stuff and internet transactions, the o2 card does the job well.

I'm on a very low income, and as no more cards for me points out, its a great way of budgeting.
  • Just a word of warning though, I got one of these cards via the Sun newspaper and hadn't actually used it yet. I thought I would look back into it to start using it and found that all these months I haven't used the card I've actually been accumulating a negative balance. Apparently I owe them nearly £40.00, I can't cancel the card until the "debt" is cleared. Wondering if I never cleared that, and they're obviously adding £4.99 a month to my card, never had any correspondence from them stating I was "in arrears".... do I still have to pay them? After all, I've never used the blessed thing!

I thought you could only get the O2 card if you're an O2 customer, direct from O2?

Or are you talking about some other pre-paid card offer in The Sun?
