does vodafone still offer pay as you go mobile broadband with no time constraints?

i remember seeing one and from what i understand by a usb mobile broadband dongle top it up and use the data brought until it runs out and doesn't expire on time wise.

do they still do it?

No - Vodafone payg mobile broadband only lasts for 30 days now.

Your best bet is getting a 'bulk buy upfront' type deal, where you buy say 12GB upfront on a PAYG basis with the view that you use it over 12 months or whatever the period is.

3 does a 3GB over 3 months and a 12GB over 12 months.

T-Mobile do something similar, but you only get a specified amount each month, so you buy 12 months worth of 2GB a month.

Where as with the 3 packages you could use all 12GB in the first month.

shame. are there much difference in the different network provider mobile broadband in connection, strength etc. like a mobile phone, where say one network signal might be better than the other?

i paid for my parents aol home broadband 24 months ago with a laptop deal, but thinking of reducing the cost of broadband for them now, as i pay the bill

Yes - the signal differences on mobile broadband work exactly like those on mobile phones. Mobile broadband uses the same masts as mobile phones, except it uses a slightly different technology.

In short, it is important what the coverage is like in your area. If you have particularly poor reception on a mobile phone with a certain provider - you'll probably get poor mobile broadband reception from them too.

However, just having good mobile phone reception doesn't guarantee you'll get good mobile broadband reception with a certain provider (although it makes it much more likely) because of the different technology and whether or not it's available from the nearest mast.

The providers all have coverage maps so worth having a look and seeing who has the best reception in your area. Look for 3G and HSDPA coverage for the fastest speeds.
