Would you put this in your mystery shop report?

  • A lot of people don't have any ID. I don't.

    I don't either.

Don't drive, don't have a passport, pay all my bills online etc.

Do have a copy of my birth certificate.

Fortunately I am in the position where I don't have to prove who i am, asking for a loan etc.

So when I am asked to prove who I am, I can (and do) say "No, but you can't prove I'm not who I say I am"
  • Most people are nice when asking me for ID it's those that don't properly understand the Law surrounding it and only have their managers version of what to do when working in this field.

I did have an experince when myself, boyfriend, his mum, dad and sister all went shopping. We had a big family shop, all putting the food on the conveyor and packing it away. Real team effort :D

His sister seperated her shopping as she was getting a birthday card, some alcopops and crisp etc to attend a birthday party. As she is 20 she already had her ID waiting. I with the others packed her shopping as i had done the rest of it, only to have the check out girl turn round and say

'you got any ID', yes i replied, but i'm not buying anything, 'yeah but ya with her so gotta check u to'.

It wasn't a polite request as she looked at me like i was stupid for daring to pack.... oh no, a bottle or WKD (Shock horror)

The law says that you only need to ID other people if you believe them to be supplying a minor with you, but quite a lot of people rightly , follow the advice of managers instore.

I personally cannot wait for a trip to a certain supermarket. They refused my friend twice because they would not accept her Citizanz card with the over 18 pass logo. I rang the head office and was told this was perfectally acceptable and she should not have been refused. I admit, i do like a little squabble when i know i'm right and their wrong :p
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

Most shop and bank staff talk rubbish about ID requirements. Some are well meaning but misinformed, whilst others are misinformed and nasty with it. An increasing number simply make it up because they feel it gives them some sort of power.

I had to smile when I read your post, I always get asked for id in supermarkets so I make sure I keep my driving licence on me. Last year got asked for id when out for a meal with oh and his parents, when she saw my age the lady was ooo I'm nearly your age, my reply was yes but I have a mortgage lol. Annoyig thing is my oh doesn't get asked for id as he's over 6 foot even though he's younger, but I guess only being 5foot I'll be asked until I'm nearly grey.

Best time was 2 years ago I was buying some cherry liquors as a Christmas prsent and got asked for id the ladies face was priceless when she realised I was old enough to buy them as shed obviously thought I was under 18.

  • No feedback yet, report has been submitted. I think we should start a thread about strange things that have happened when mystery shopping. I was attempting to take a photo of a jewelery store discretely which was in a shopping centre after mystery shopping. I always do it with my camera phone so it looks like I am sending a text. It was proving difficult as it was busy and people were forever walking in front of me. I was stopped by the security in the shopping centre  and had to explain to they why! They thought I was 'giving the place the once over' :o:o:o
  • If there was a risk of being fined £thousands for serving an underage customer I too would be making damn sure I checked their age with a form of ID that is difficult to forge i.e. driving license or passport.
  • The checkout assistant will be personally fined £80 on-the-spot if they are caught serving someone under age an age restricted product. The store manager is also personally fined and the store itself may well lose its trading licence.

The supermarket I work for will only accept photo driving licence, passports, Portman cards and photo with the PASS logo.
