    Reading the last few replies makes me think I could have blown the PS2 port by not switching the power off. Talk about learning the hard way!

    Why doesn't the same apply to USB ports? I know the 'safely remove hardware' alert but I thought that only applied to files and not the USB port itself.

    Any other tips greatfully received!

    USB ports are designed to be 'hot pluggable', PS/2 ports are an older technology and are not.

    (As Baldur correctly stated. ) 'Safely remove hardware' notification does apply to usb devices also IME, but how many folk pay diligence to this (I try to). ;)
