  • What is the best course of action regarding credit card protection? Would I gain any more protection against fruadulent use by calling my credit card company and alerting them to this potential problem?

Would I be libel to pay the money back if someone did use my card?

    Thanks

...okay, so now I'm concerned enough to let my debit card provider (yikes) know that there may be a problem.

...my question is, who do I tell them might be using my card inappropriately as a result of think4-gate?

    (hope you understand my question)

Not rang my card, but if your concered just ring them and let them know that you have purchased/attempted purchase from a website which you have now seen in a forum that people have said they have had problems, they should check your card account and ask you to confirm transactions. There shouldn't be a need to tell them who may have used your card as they would probably be able to trace those details from any seller where it may be used

  • Note that it may be nothing to do with think4. This is the 1st time this has happenend to me (and the last I hope)

I think we need to get a few more people with issues. before we know where the problem is. At the moment with regards actual dodgey transactions, I think its just me and someone else so maybe this is just a coincidence.

Either way my current CC is now deceased and I have a new one on the way.

    Hi

Thanks; I've run a check of my internet bank account and there are no unauthorised uses - I was thinking more re: any future uses?

I agree with you regarding making a mountain out of a mole hill, but these things do happen, so just trying to guard against it...

At the end of the day, there is always a possibility of someone "harvesting" card details to use at a later date, I don't mean to scaremonger but just because things are fine now, it doesn't mean to say yuor details (if accessed) may not be used sometime later.

I've been buying online since around 1998 (maybe slightly earlier) and to date (famous last words) have never had a problem. On one occasion I did have a problem purchasing O2 sims cards (before they done them free) and tried about 5 times to get the order but it failed each time, the card company rang me the next day because of the sudden increase in activity.

Its also worth while getting/using a credit card with a low credit limit for internet use, I have a few cards but only purchase of the internet with a card which has just over £1400 limit...as I pay it off each month I think I'm ok for any large purchases :)

I have been in touch with the Special Investigation Team from Nationwide as to the possible link with Think4.com and the fraudulant use of my Credit Card details. As I mentioned previously my Credit Card has been cancelled by the Nationwide as they picked up on the small transaction amounts which set the alarm bells ringing. I'm just pleased that they are on the ball with these things. This is the reason that I decided to post on this forum to inform other people whose Credit Card Companies may not be as switched on. As I am not the only person who has posted on this Forum regarding this matter after using think4.com the link is very very suspect. I'm just trying to help.
  • Hmmmm....I need to appologise folks (especially to think4)....I logged on to remove my card from their system and I found that I had used my switch card which I dont normally do. The problem is, Im not sure if Id actually given details of my CC (I seem to remember it was a major rigmoral setting up an account to actually order so I may have done but not asked for it to be kept) therefore Think4 are probably out of the loop with regards my CC.

Going back to that address (crest ave) and the close proximity of the guy setting up websites I wonder how I can find out what sites he's set up without asking him.

If you haven't already done so, do a scan on you system for "key loggers", "trojans" and any other spyware which maybe present to cature card details, most spyware software (windows defender, spybot search and destory, etc) should pick up these type of things.
