Fibre optic BB cost

This is specifically about Virgin fibre optic broadband...
I'm new to Virgin and was offered this package:
Broadband L (10Mb) and Phone M (free weekend calls) - £23.50 a month, no installation charge.
I don't understand how people on other threads say they are getting a 10Mb package for £10 to £15 a month - is that a package involving a BT line ie not fibre optic cable?
Thanks

Your figure includes line rental, most people probably quote a figure without line rental. You don't need a phone line for Virgin Cable broadband (although they will charge you more for it if you don't take a phone).0 -

Are you in a VM cable area? If not, you will be offered Virgin National, which is just a resold BT ADSL service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

The people you are reading about are probably quoting deals that they have through Retentions.
For example I pay £13.95pm for XL Phone and 10Mb BB - this is the total cost including the line rental. I also got a £30 credit which basically brings my price down to an equivalent of £11.45pm. However this deal was only offered after I cancelled my services with them after almost 14 years of being a customer.
Unfortunately still every evening my 10Mb BB drops to less than 2Mb - over utilisation!
It is fibre optic cable.0 -
You are only on fibre optic cable from the hubsite to the Mux,after then you are on copper cable. The mux can be up to & over 1/2 mile from you house!!The hubsite can be many miles away.
The fibre carries phone,tv & broadband!!!!!
