I've always wanted to take a quick gander around charity shops but seeing as im only 19 i feel a bit young lol. Also there's the embarassement factor, is there any charity websites, where they sell stuff online? Sorry for being stupidThanks
** Also whats the best bargains you've got in a charity shop? **
I got my favourite shirt from a charity shop and it cost me £0.50 it sits nicely next to my shirts which cost me upwards of £60 and as I said before it is my favourite. You can get some absolute bargains in a charity shop and often a better more unique look.
Dont be embarresed by them. Why should you be embarresed by saving money and actually getting some pretty damn nice clothing.0 -

Also both Age Concern shops in Burnley & Accrington sell everything for £1. Just today got OH M&S trousers, Next shirt, and for me M&S blouse, jumper, other week got a designer label coat.0 -

I agree with the bit about ejecting people i just give them the answer if they ask for any discount and normally have a laugh with them oover it and they normally buy it at full price.
But every manager has a different attitude.

Although at local church that holds jumble sales every 3 months they said they were finding it increasingly difficult to get rid of all the leftover things, so were seriously thinking of giving up holding them. As they always have mostly M&S< & NEXT left but sadly not my size + curtains etc was very tempted to offer to take them, but meany OH banned me.
Do they do the fill a bag for £1 thing at the end? I love when jumble sales do that (sadly it's becoming rarer where I am), and it does shift quite a lot of the stock. If you brought home a bag of stuff to sell on ebay and made a decent profit from it, your OH may (if storage space isn't too much of problem) become more amenable to the idea of your bringing several bags next time.0 -

i work if the clothes haven't sold after month we rag them and they are bought off us for 2.50 a bag by a textile company.

£2.50 a bag? Wow, that's impressive!0

yeah it started a while ago at £1.00 then went up when the tsunami was happening as the textiles were in more demand for some reason and just keeps on going up when we negotiate with them.
On the point peril made we do try selling it 3 weeks full price then 1 week on a rail where everythings a £1.

Im late joining this thread, but i just thought id say to the op, charity shops are bloody great! we moved house in march, into a maisonette, and guess what kind of shop is right below us? thats right! a charity shop! We go down there most days, either to donate stuff or have a nose round, and we've had some cracking bargains! just today i got my oh a brand new 'gap' shirt, tags on and everything, for 50p! Like you op, when i was 19 i used to get really embarassed going into them, but once you've 'taken the plunge' i swear to god its addictive! I really like it cause im not hugely keen on dressing the same as everyone else (im not some weirdo, im just terrified of going to a party and seeing someone dressed the same as me!), and i really like vintage (or old granny as my oh calls them!) clothes... you wouldnt believe how cool some of the things are that get given away. I also enjoy it because i see my lovely son (aged 6) not wanting to wear the latest adidas or nike like some of his friends, he enjoys having a scramble through the rails and likes finding some cool old vintage t shirts and shirts! He does me proud that one I tell ya!You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

Hi yes semi rural, unfortunately I think all the rag merchants have gone round here, even local charity shops tend to leave old stock out for refuse collectors.
Yes they have fill a bag for 50p at the end, items being only 20p each at the start.
Last jumble sale they had about 5 trestle tables full left, and as I once did get everything left [it filled our garage] the meany has now been banned from doing it again even though I eventually found either a home or use for everything [I used to teach textiles so am quite good at adapting clothes].
Still undeterred am looking forward to the next one.
You are right about ebay, vintage denim especially levis sell really well.0 -
best find was my Levis jeans what are £60.00 in shops....got them for £4.00.

Hi,
Ive taken the plunge and visited 2 charity shops today and im so glad i did!...in the first one I got my little boy 'Mater' toy from Cars the movie for 50p! Then in the 2nd one I found 'Doc Hudson' for 20p!!! There only the mcdonalds toys but my son loves them and I don't have to fill him with junk food (happy meal) now to get the toys! :j plus 2 of my local mcdonalds have run out of these toys now,as the demand for them was so high so I was thinking of buying them off ebay at rediculous prices...soooo glad I didn't!!!
Im planning another charity shop rummage later in the week and I can't wait!love my little man he is amazing :j0
