If you have any left over dried cranberries (nicest) or sultanas (a good substitute) there's a lovely Christmas Chutney recipe here.
This sounds lovely but I don't have any apple cider vinegar, is there anything I could substitute it with do you suppose?
I normally have plenty of white vinegar in (she says hopefully):wave:0 -
I wouldn't use the white vinegar, it is totaly different to Apple cider vinegar, but I am not an expert so maybe wait for more replies. Recipe looks good though.0

spiced apple chutney is nice - I made this a couple of weeks ago using some bargain cox's from lidl - I gave most of it away as christmas presents and have had lots of good feedback. I never have exactly the right spices in, so substituted ginger, cinnamon and alspice! It was fine!

I double the quantities too, as it takes a long time to cook down (more like 2.5-3 hours) so I reckon its worth making a bigger batch if you have a big enough pan! - Also, although the recipe says it makes 4 - 6 jars, I would say it only makes about 4 unless the jars are very small!0 -

I have just made the quick red onion chutney used as a side dish and it was delicious with ham. Really easy to make.
Thank you all for the suggestions.0 -
Hello
I have finally made my red onion marmalade but its too sweet for me - is there anything I can do or do I need to find a very sweet toothed person??0 -
When did you make it? It might taste a bit better with maturing. I made pickle a few months ago and the recipe said wait at least two weeks, but would be even better left longer. After two weeks, it was okay, but I thought it was a little sweet. Now, we are on the last jar and it has just got better and better, the 'tangy-ness' has sort of overcome the sweetness.
Other than that, give it out as Christmas pressies.0 -
Thanks flissh, will bottle it up and hope the sweetness fades. Guess it will taste different on a plate with something savoury.0
