I use a stainless steel jam pan if I'm making a large amount, otherwise my pressure cooker which is bigger than any of my other saucepans.0

I think as long as it's heavy based you should be ok. Keep an eye out for pots in charity shops

Hi there
I have been given 2 carrier bags of courgettes (some on the large side) plus i was given 5 good size windfall apples (I think they are bramleys) I also have sugar, vinegar & onions in the house is there a chutney or pickle in there & If not what would I need to add to it??

so long as you basically get the sugar and vinegar content right, and sterilise the jars and lits, you can "chutney-fy" pretty much anything0

ok my old pre war book says cook all ingredients together until result is palatable with no flavour too strong, so i'd assume equal sugar and vinegar?
BUT book says noooo!
most of them are a ratio of 1 veg/fruit/both: 1/4 sugar : 1/3 ish vinegar; so for 8lbs veg it's 2lbs sugar and 2.5-3pts vinegar.
remember, a chutney's flavour improves as it keeps, so don't eat it straight away.
sorry this took me a few mins, it's been a while since I made any chutney so needed to check lol!0
