    Hi,

I do think some parts of Turkey have got way too overdeveloped and touristy, but there are still plenty of nice parts. The Turkish people I have always found warm and friendly, and I haven't even had the trots too bad, but do take the usual precautions like avoiding tap water, ice, salads etc. I went last September and loved the resort we went to (Dalyan), and didn't find it that expensive, especially if you go to places where the local eat- we found a typical turkish cuisine place packed with locals and it was one of the best places I have ever eaten in my life, and sooo cheap.

It is a different culture, just be open minded, so enjoy it for what it is.

the local anti-mossie stuff is called sinkov - its very effective. if you like/can eat yoghurt, eat the local stuff as soon as possible (from local shop, as long as its natural), settles your tum and stops you getting ill. eat little on first few days and drink more (bottled) water than you usually would.

hassle - it all depends on where you go, but ive never had a serious problem and find Turkish people are warm and helpful, and feel (as a single woman) its one of the safest places ive ever travelled... never stayed in a big resort though.

Istanbul is wonderful, no point i think in telling you where to go what to do, the fun is in finding out for yourself. lots of choices in sultanahmet area, especially if you new to Turkish food there are more european options there.. and in the small streets leading from the main street off Taksim (Istiklal caddesi) there are loads of bars, cafes, restaurants, everything you could want.

do a boat trip up bosphorus, there lots of choices, dont pay too much for 'organised' one just go to ferry points and buy local tickets (will be in english or person will speak some english)
