Barclaycard Initial - Unable to make a decision

Hi All,

I applied online for the Barclaycard Initial card yesterday. At the end it came up and said (after appearing to be calculating or something for a minute or so - I assume it was checking my poor CRA records), "Sorry but we are unable to make an immediate decision and require some more information from you, We will contact you shortly"

I assumed that I would get a phone call today but nothing. Anyone had this message before and still got approved? Any idea what extra information they may require?

Thanks.

When I applied last year, got same message, called them in the afternoon to know what kind of information they needed and was told that I had been accepted and given a £6,600 credit limit;)
  • Called them up yesterday and they said wait for a letter..........

Got the letter today. A decline...with the sorry you do not currently meet our criteria but please apply again in six months...

So much for them wanting more information then!

When they said "wait for letter"....that means it's declined, they did not want to tell you over the phone. Maybe you should try Vanquis or Capital one, might be easier with Vanquis

What is your credit history like?

The Initial is targeted more toward people who have a low score due to little past credit, less so toward people that have a low score due to previous adverse information.

Perhaps if you open a Capital One Classic and Vanquis, wait a year, you will then be in a much stonger position to apply for a Barclaycard.

I'd had a Aquacard account for 12 months and a Vanquis account for 6 months when I applied for the Barclaycard Initial - I got the "Need more information" and I was approved with a £1,150 limit. Likely due to the flawless recent history on two other cards ;)

My equifax file is 100% flawless, as the address at which I had do declare myself bankrupt is not linked.

My Experian fine has been 100% flawless for the last 36 months and prior to that a discharged bankruptcy, and six satisfied defaults.

As Barclaycard only searched Equifax in my case they were unaware of any adverse credit history.

Yeah, that's the polite version of 'declined.'

No it's not. I got the same response in October 2009. Within a week a card arrived with a 1,150 limit :o

It means exactly what it suggests. "Maybe"...

Couldn't agree more with izools. When I applied for barclay initial, I also didn't get the instant decision. But a week later card turned up.

And about my history, I am from states. Been in UK for just over 3 years. Had a natwest step account and o2 contract both reporting to eq/ex. I had no adverse credit history but had very little credit history.

And I have maintained barclaycard and capital one well for last 7 months or so and just recently Natwest upgraded my step account to current plus which I had been declined in past.

I disagree, my sister works for Barclaycard [sales], so she should know!
