Just a warning

I have recently returned from a trip where I booked a 3 day hire.

Upon collecting the car I was advised that although I would need to pay for a full tank of fuel (70 Euros for a Peugot 207!), unused fuel would be refunded. I returned the car having used half a tank.

Having received my credit card statement, this refund has not been made so I got the rental agreement out in order to contact them.

Having looked at the agreement I have also been charged 20 Euros for wheel insurance. I was asked about this when collecting the car & I declined it (as I always do).

I contacted Goldcar they have advised me that I will be refunded for the fuel but as I didn't raise the insurance query before the end of rental it will not be refunded.

No comments please about I should have checked the contract - I accept this. Just wanted to warn others so they check their contract & their credit card statement.

Pretty sound advice for car hire ANYWHERE really. I guess the ease at which we can all hunt down the best deals these days and the demand for ever lower "headline" prices means the rental companies have to try and claw back as much as they can by whatever means. So as you say check, check and check again.
