Car insurance for my 17 year old son?

Hi guys, just wondering what insurance companies were the cheapest for newly passed 17 year olds, cheapest quote i have for my son driving a 1.1 corsa is £2,300...can this be beaten do you think? otherwise i suppose it's either six months insurance for him or i front him as a named driver.

Cheers Mark.

if you front him and he has a claim you could end up in doggy doo doo as its fraud,

try him as main driver and you or OH as named driver that may help and look both at tpft and fc

£2,300 sounds like it's a little high, but not far from a reasonable price. It is not so much a reflection of the value of the car he drives, more like a reflection of the damage he can cause to other road users. Have you tried adding yourself / your wife as named drivers to bring down the cost?

Fronting is obviously fraud and invalidates his insurance. If that was the case and he caused any damage he would be personally liable for any 3rd party claims.

That's life for a 17 year old driver I am afriad. Keep trying!

Yes, i hear what you saying about 'fronting'..it's probably not the best way to go, as for cover i was thinking third party only, because obviously that would be cheaper than TPFT and FC.

Very interesting about naming me on his policy as a named driver, never thought of that, wonder if it works out cheaper, thanks.

There's no 'probably' about it, it's definately not the best way to go.

Also TPO is not always cheaper than TPFT or FC because listening to the guys on this site who are in insurance they say that these days not many co's are willing to insure TPO.

Just tried them now online and they can't quote me apparantly with the information i provided, so maybe they don't like new drivers, by the way to all that have replied with advice, i tried putting myself on as a named driver and put my son's cover as TPFT and low and behold a whopping £500 cheaper nearly!!! with ecar insurance, they quoted me £1,845 ..still horrendous but getting better:T
  • ring directline line up , they were the best for me on my corsa when i passed, im a girl though :S

My 1.1 Ford Fiesta was £1500 with DirectLine, cheapest I got (male, 17, not passed). ;)

I also did PassPlus and got a £200 rebate from them ! :)

Not bad for a few minutes work! Try adding your wife if she is a driver. Women often have an impact on these kind of things.

I think somewhere between £1,500 and £1,750 is where you are likely to land. Good luck!
