nice thinking
i'll figure out a way to do that and give it a try.
i just tried resetting the router to factory defaults, and one of my downloads is now maintaining a steady, but slow, transfer speed on the ubuntu test. i wonder if that was it?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . could be an isp issue e.g. they are traffic shaping your line because keep downloading too much? who is your isp?0
-
virgin media (cable) is the isp. and traffic shaping i don't have a problem with - as long as it's just slowing the transfer down. this stops it in midflow. i barely download anything, although i do stream a lot. in any case if this was a VM policy, i imagine these boards would be red hot with complaints, but i can't find another problem like it.0

hhmmm in that case what anitvirus you running also what anitspyware as some scan as you download also take it you have checked your ports in your modem router?0
-
Could always (if not already) use a download manager such as Flashget.
Of course this would only be a workaround, as opposed to a full solution.
Let us know how you get on!0 -
This sounds more like a router issue / hardware matter. Could you tell us more about the modem or router that you use? Is it powered by mains? Does it get hot? Probably not the cause, but still...0

On another forum, this problem has been fixed by disabling the router's firewall. The router in question is Ativa but if you'd like to read up, here it is.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0
