Why do you use this forum?

A poster on another thread suggested this for a thread and so I thought I'd start.

So, why do you use this forum?

I use it from a combination of enjoying the community here, habit, boredom (I've been woefully underemployed), learning new things, trying to educate others and a general interest in economics.

    What a great idea.

I dip in to pick up economic stuff that I may have missed, and explanations of things I don't really understand. I also became hooked on the jokes, wind ups, flaming and gossips - and check whose saying what to who.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Habit.

    And some of the people.

Used to be for education and skill development but I have resigned myself to ignorance and ineptitude.

I come in here to laugh at the bears - wow, they are getting increasingly desperate these days
Is that the only reason? Nothing more positive than that?

Genuinely, I don't really know. I'm not saying that in a "god, this place is awful I don't know why I bother" sense, more just that I can't really put my finger on why I keep coming back.

I guess the main reason is that I like the different personalities and the intrerest in the economy is secondary really. I think having some real experts on stuff is always interesting to read (you on a load of stuff Gen, FC123 on retail, Hamish on Aberdeen and bullsh*t etc.) and then you have a whole host of other types: funny people, chatty people, complete mentalists, some of the strangest views I've ever seen. It's fun and addictive.

I've learnt stuff on here too, but factual and about society. For example, I never knew before coming on here that there was a small section of society so obsessed with BTL. Before MSE I just saw it as another business. Well, still do, but it's given me another perspective.

Lastly, I'm quite an optimistic, happy, chappy in life and probably tend to be a bit over-positive about things. The complete and utter doom that fogs this board on occassion is probably quite a useful tool in bringing me down to thinking about the bad stuff every now and again. Creates a nice balance in the middle somewhere I guess.

So maybe I do know the reasons why, it's just all of the above.

I think that says more about you than them.

Some use it to share experience and gain onfo from others. To get and give good advice or just another perspective on their joys or troubles

Some get enjoyment, but it nearly always ends in tears with people falling out with eachother, though that mostly forgiven and forgotten by the next day.

and some use it cause they've nothing better to do and it fulfills thier days which would otherwise be preocuppied with lesser activities ie - nothing

I think most use it as a stop gap, though am surprised by the amount of posters who've hung around for years on here.:(

It's the same as the old school playground, in essence.
