Best mobiles for texting Australia
Hi there,
Apologies if this is a really dumb question, I'm a bit new to this so hope this is the right place and not too stupid a question.
My sister moved to Autralia earlier on this year and for the first time ever my mum now needs a mobile to keep in contact with her.
Mum really just wants to text her (my sister has an Australian mobile) but all the delas I've seeen seem to include international minutes rather than international texts as part of an allowance. For example T-Mobile have a 30 day sim only for £10 a month where you can select your 'flexible booster' choice, one of which is 60 international minutes but as I say she really only wants texts.
To add a bit of confusion mum would also now like to text uk mobiles too.
Are there any deals around, pay as you go or pay monthly where she can get some sort of inclsuive/reduced cost international texts plus some uk texting?
Sorry if I'm being thick - just feel like I've gone round and round in circles and all I've done is confuse myself!
Any help or advice would be brilliant.

There are a few options, if you already have a phone she could get a giffgaff.com pay as you go SIM, they are 8p per text to Australia and UK texts are 4p
There is the option of using something like fishtext.com which would be 2p or less per text plus data charges, but that requires a compatible phone and requires a bit of faffing about.
Another angle, you could ask your sister if she wants a UK SIM, you could send it to her and she could use it for receiving texts from friends and family in the UK. You would probably need to put a few quid on every six months to keep the SIM active.0 -
Hi MarkLS12,
That's brilliant thank you! I'll go investigate giffgaff.com but that sounds perfect. She does already have a phone so this sounds like a great solution.
Thanks again0 -
Suggest you also investigate Lebara mobile. I think they were set up if most of your calls/texts are to international destinations.
