Virgin Media Problems

Hello, this is my first post so bear with me a little :)

Been having a few problems with my virgin internet access recently, its been super slow ~6kbs when the package we have should be 10mbs, the ping results are also dire ~300ms resulting in a very poor conection and a lack of service at times.

Through numerous phone calls i have finally got to the bottom of the problem, it seems as though virgin in their wisdom have failed to provide suitable infrastructure to carry the weight of users in my area (Bishopston in Bristol for any locals also having problems). It turns out that the work needed will not be finished until 7th June. They have offere me money off the bill each month, but i still wont be able to get on line. They have told me that to cancel the contract it will cost me, surely they are not supplying the goods i ordered and therefore breaching their own contract? could someone offer me some advise on this please?

Kind Regards

  • I've had a similar problem in Leeds, luckily I am moving house now and out of contract so cancelling should be simple (I could be wrong as it is Virgin)

I was usually getting upload speeds of 12-15kb and very poor ping. I am living in an area with quite a high student population so the infrastructure is incredibly stretched around there.

Can't wait to say bye bye virgin.

Your both wrong. The legacy cable companies did provide enough 'infrastructure' in their initial build but at the time, broadband did not exist in the UK & people like NTL's CEO Barclay Knap, instead of funding network improvement's for the future, poured the money into buying other companies. (C&W ect)
Then they went into Chapter 11,laid 1000's of staff off & now dont have the money to invest in the network.
Certain areas like Londonderry, cannot get VM BBand.

Thats how I see it as a ex NTL/VM Service Engineer.
