Getting from virgin to talk talk

hi how do i get over to talk talk from virgin?
i need a BT line to get to talk talk but BT want me to sign for 18 months.
will i have to wait 18 months before i can change the phone to talk talk?

I dont think Talk Talk do number ports so you may have to change your number unless you go the BT route0
