I don't think there's any time for the appeal to be prepared and heard before Tuesday.

I wonder if I should still take the bus, as my return travel is on Mon 12th, concerned that if new strike dates are announced, that may be one of them... confusing times....

Travelling on 12th should be fine. I've seen this many times in the transport Industry. The union are going to have to ballet again which will take a few weeks.

Note that only 54% voted to strike so taking out all the error votes might show it below 50%:)

So bang goes any chance of a refund now, if we've made (and paid for) other arrangements :(.

I read on Virgin and East Coast's website that they will honour refunds from people who have made alternative arrangements and were due to travel on previously scheduled cancelled strike services.

Yes I noticed that after I'd posted, so have emailed East Coast (where I bought my ticket) to ask what I need to do. I have a problem in that I paid with a NatWest Maestro card, but my bank have now asked me to destroy that and use the new Visa card they've sent me, but East Coast say they have to put the credit on the card that was originally used. Why is life so complicated?

Also, I presume you have to get your unused ticket to them before the relevant travel date, otherwise who's to say you haven't travelled anyway and the ticket inspector never marked it. Not much chance of getting it to them before 6th :(.
