There is some truth in the post above. There is also some bullcrap, so take it with a pinch of salt.

It would probably be best off in Discussion Time (if there is not already a thread there).

This is a thread for the tens of thousands of people who pay our (yes, OUR wages) who are being disrupted through no fault of their own.

So tell me robt which bit do you think is bull?

Have you bought advance tickets, i.e. two singles or have you bought an actual return ticket?
  • I really need to know if my train home is going to be cancelled NOW!

!'m travelling to London Sunday and due back Wednesday. It's not that easy keeping an eye on the website when you're already away, and because of disability I have booked my seats in the quiet 1st class carriage - presumably I won't get that if my train is cancelled.

Northern Rail have cancelled almost all of their services all day - not just during the strike times. Liverpool will effectively have no service for the first two days of the Grand National.

Full details on which services are running is here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/2010/dispute.html then click on the relevant operator at the bottom of the page.

ChrissieCan most long distance services to London have a service on strike days between 7am and 7pm as Network Rail have arranged for the staff working during the strike to be on the mainlines in to London.

To the man who posted from the RMT, I just wanted to say that you absolutely and postively have zero support from me. It is totally inexcusible to drag the travelling public into your argument with your employers. And the fact that you've timed your strikes to cause maximum disruption to commuters like myself frankly makes my blood boil. You could just as easily call a strike for times when the network is less busy but that wouldn't cause as much disruption or grab as many headlines would it?!

Come next Tuesday (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) morning when it takes god knows how long for me to get to work on an overcrowded train, I will be cursing you and all your union cronies to high heavens! And I'll be cursing you again later in the day when I can't get home in the evening.

And no driving in isn't an option unless you want to give me £10 a day to park and a flying machine for my car that will allow me to fly over all the traffic on the way.

I will say this though, if you want a nice cosy office job with no weekend or evening working, then go get one. My boyfriend works shifts outdoors too. His company recently changed his T&Cs so that he'll have to work Sundays soon. Which will be horrible for us. But that's what he signed up for with the company. He doesn't get to go on strike so why should you? It's too late in the day to be moaning about the fact that you want to spend time with your families. Your kind of job was never going to be Mon-Fri, 9-5 so get over yourselves. I want to spend time with my family too so would appreciate not having to spend half my day trying to get in and out of work and failing because of your stupid strike.

I've just re-read your post and am really confused now. Are you striking for the safety of the travelling public or because you don't want a change to your T&Cs? I'm getting really mixed messages here...

If you don't like your job, then quit and go get another one. I'm sure there'll be a queue of people around the block willing to take your place. And stop taking your squabbles with your bosses out on us, you'll never get any support that way!

So if the above link details are now official, can I get a refund on my Arriva Trains ticket to Chester for 6th, a service which is not running, nor any other services to Chester until 10th April if I'm understanding correctly?

Erm, think I'll have to disagree with you there...
As a member of the RMT that will be striking next week, as part of the NR maintainance dispute, I feel I should clear a few things up.
