i am single mum on benefits who would like to move in with her partner but bizarrely enough we would be financially worse off . . .
is anyone else in this situation??
#Love is in the air#
Geez
If you love the fella and want a future together, whats the issue?
Did someone say "You can't buy love?"
My dad gave up work to look after my mam, the family suffered financially, I bought my uniform for school from the car boot sale and we never went on holiday again.
But you know what? They love each other, whilst it was hard at the time and we all suffered with lack of money, now I look back and see the commitment they made each other in a new light.
You might be better off "single" but think about the benefits (no! Not those kind!) of being a couple is.

My partner moved in with me and ds last year and we are worse off, main issue being losing help with childcare, apparently we dont pay enough to qualify for help. Tobruk it shouldnt influence the decision but unfortunatley if like us you are about 2/300.00 worse off a month it makes it extremley hard yes we can now half the bills, but the bills have increased as there are more of us.
things like insurance don't double, heating doesn't double, electric won't double etc
its not good if people won't live with each other incase the benefits they recieve go down....why should the Public carry on paying for other people if that persons costs go down.
Its not a way of life, its meant to be there to help people in dire situationsAlways ask ACAS0 -
Why is it that people never take into account the costs of running two households when they make their calculations?
Although one person's benefits may go down, the person moving in will be saved from paying a separate lot of rent and bills and the money will balance out. In addition, 2 people eating together is cheaper than 2 people eating separately and the costs of travelling between the 2 homes will disappear.
You have to look at the bigger picture.0 -
It seems these days it's yes I love you and really want to be with you but ... erm ... not 'for richer or poorer' and I certainly don't want to go without!!0

The op asked wether anyone else was worse off after being a single parent and then living together, I answered yes as this was the case for me. I didnt say wether it was right or wrong and i dont ever expect other people to pay for my family, i have worked and paid taxes since i left school. unfortunatley the way this country works just now is that alot of people find they are better off claiming as a single person rather than a family unit. It shouldnt be a choice that people have to make but unfortunatley it is:oIn 2009 i finally gave up smoking Have been smoke free for 3 years!!!!!!

That's the point though!
Some of us don't feel it is a choice as that means valuing money equal to, or more than, someone you are supposedly ready to make a commitment with.0 -
And some of us don't think that it's generally the case anyway!0

I understand what you are saying coco1980, and you did make the choice of being together. I would think where children are involved they should be priority, surely it would be better for a child to be in a stable family unit? What lessons are passed on to the children??0

Why isn't there a sticky as this type of question gets asked nearly every day as well as "is there a set amount of days my bf/gf/partner can stay over"
How do we know if you will be better off living together,do what everybody else does and try it. Sorry to be harsh but the benefit culture in this country is a joke but that's another matter for the discussion board“You’re only here for a short visit.
