im not having a hol this year! or next year for that matter!
in fact the only holidays abroad i have ever had (this is a very sad admission) have been with my parents or the in-laws or to a hotel (albeit in Antigua) where my boyfriend has done some work for the owner and done a deal!
i know what you mean tho - it is depressing to see other people going away - but enjoy the lovely english weather while it lasts!!
i have actually never been in a travel agents and booked a holiday!
sofas i brought last year have to be paid by Dec to avoid the interest - and they are my holiday this year! how sad!!0 -
We always went to North Wales or Somerset for a week as kids. DH and I went to the US this Easter (prebooked before my lightbulb moment), but I really couldn't say when the next holiday will be. Being a teacher, DH may get 6 weeks off in the summer but I give him a DIY list to last through that time! The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Your friends are jetting off for months at a time? It won't be long before they're on here then!
The only reason they're able to "afford" it is because they using their credit cards or getting loans. Won't you feel smug when you can jet off debt free?[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -
I am off to Cornwall for a week in September with boyfriend....it is our first holiday together and we have been together for FOUR YEARS.
The last time I had a proper holiday was 1999.
So no, you're not alone..!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Our holidays consist of - staying with friends - albeit in middle england with lovely canals on the doorstep. Youth Hostelling or staying on a farm (yha accept clubcard tokens), and then next month we are going to cheshire in a cheapy cottage we are hiring. We have lots of cheap holidays - and we always do the 'free' things whilst we are there - a fortnight in the sun is not worth the debt.0

the sun holidays are starting again on saturday ,maybe worth a looksie ?

We're in exactly the same situation - trying to get to grips with the debt and had to cancel this year's family holiday. But - we are saving Tesco clubcard points like mad and will go away with Siblu (used to be Haven Europe) next year paid for with the points. Can you make plans like that perhaps - it really does take the sting out of this year if you know you have something brilliant and money saving planned for next year??£2 saver club £16 so far!! - it's growing!!! :j

We aren't going away this year either,so you're not alone!;)
There will always be others that get to go away, how they finance it is their business, but one things for sure, next time we go away (hopefully abroad) we will have saved for it.No credit for us.:p
But in the meantime,we will visit relatives down South- which the kids love, set the tent up in the back garden, go for picnics and days out at various country parks (weather permitting) and have fun.

I never had a holiday until I left school and was working for a living. My mum was widowed at 31. In the 60's there was no Benefit, apart from a meagre widowed mothers allowance, which really was a pittance. My mum went to work, in factories and as a cleaner, there were no treats or frivolities. We were bare-a$$ poor in a way that kids these days don't understand, but it didn't matter. No-one in our neighbourhood went on holiday - it was unheard of. Times change, people have different expectations now, but kids are very adaptable and if you are honest with them they'll understand. Don't beat yourself up over it. They'll be just as happy with a day trip somewhere, or camping in the garden.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

We have two mini breaks planned for September (OH B'Day) and October. September is a Sun cheap £9.50 holiday to Blackpool as kids love the lights and October is a freebie as we had a nightmare stay in Torquay on Sun holiday so have upgraded us as a goodwill gesture.
Was spoilt as had been on Honeymoon to Tunisia last year but am happy to stay with the cheap caravan holidays just to get away for a few days and the kids 4,2, nearly 1 think its a great holiday so my wallet likes it just as much.0
