Happens everytime a new operating system comes out - after a month or two all the Pcs start playing up on the older OS - Mysterious.

It would probably be more helpful if (as mentioned in the article you've linked too) you singled out security update kb977165 as the update which has been causing the issue that is being reported (in a rather sloppy manner).

From the quoted article :- "Several users tentatively identified the MS10-015 update as the one which triggered the BSOD, and claimed that uninstalling that security fix -- which was labeled as KB977165 -- returned their PC to working condition".

The security fix KB977165 has not yet been confirmed as the definite cause.

Personally all the updates except KB977165 have now been installed to my desktop PC and everything is fine, I will leave updating my laptop for a few more days, perhaps untill there is more information about.

You are correct anewhope it is important to install updates promptly but having been caught out before I now tend to postpone installing updates for a few days just to see if any probems become apparent.

Interesting - I have had no end of BSOD's over the last few days, and thought it was my 2 year old Dell going to pieces ...

A few times the Blue Screen spoke of a driver problem that appeared to be related to the Realtek HD audio, so i tried to deinstall that. I also then had problems with Nokia OVI Music - it just gave up working and crashed every time.

Ended up removing OVI, removing and re-installing the Realtek driver last night and it all seems to be a bit more stable now.
  • Just been confirmed by Microsoft that the KB977165 patch could be the cause of a "blue screen issue".

"One of Microsoft’s “Patch Tuesday” security fixes is triggering a widespread “Blue Screen of Death” problem. The cause is not the update itself, but an existing infection. So far, reports suggest that this problem affects Windows XP and Windows Vista."

"If you are running Windows and have not yet applied this update, make sure you scan your computer thoroughly for infections before applying this update."
